You are way behind the power curve on this story. There have been multiple posts on this and lots of wild speculation. Today comes the news that the hosting site owner pulled the plug after receiving information from the FBI that some of the hosted blogs were being used by Al Qaeda to support the propaganda rag Inspire and to provide hit lists, bomb making instructions, recruiting info, etc.

Why didn’t the FBI pull the blogs in question down?
And where is the court order?

By that logic, if someone were to place a personal ad in a newspaper that contained coded info similar to the info in the blogs in question, the govt could shut down all newspapers.

That doesn’t make sense. Why self-terminate your whole business by removing your domain name rather than take down the blogs themselves? You can stop serving all the blogs and still let your customers get to their data so they can move the information when needed.
