Mel Gibson Tirades are the Distilled Violence, Cruelty, & Bigotry of Right-wing Catholic Ideology
Slate ^ | 7/19/10 | Christopher Hitchens

Here is a man whose every word and deed is easily explicable once you know the single essential thing about him: He is a member of a fascist splinter group that believes it is the salvation of the Catholic Church.

This schismatic crackpot sect is headed by Mel Gibson's father, Hutton Gibson, a nutty autodidact with a sideline in Holocaust denial.

Like many ultra-conservative Catholics, the Gibsons, père et fils, have never forgiven the Vatican for lifting the charge of deicide against the Jews in 1964.

Less well-remembered, perhaps, is the interview in which he announced that his wife of many years and the mother of his children would not, alas, be able to join him in paradise.

It was not a matter of her moral character. It was simply that she had not seen fit to join the one true church.

Her condemnation, then, was "a pronouncement from the chair."

Gibson has now traded in this long-suffering lady—hopelessly rupturing his sacred marriage vows—for another, younger one, who, to phrase it delicately, was almost certainly not picked for her salient Catholic virtues.

In doing this, he must have had a consciousness, however dim, of having endangered his immortal soul.

It isn’t catholic theology at all.

They’ve actually rejected the Church they claim to believe in and have set themselves up as their own little popes.

This is what frustrates me with all these Gibson threads.

GIBSON AIN’T A CATHOLIC PEOPLE!

Forgive me, I am not sure yet exactly where Aaron Burr died. I just heard about it, and didn’t even know he wasn’t feeling well.

So sorry about yours and your wife's horrible experience with this pervert in priest clothing and his pal. Lord only knows what has been suffered by trusting innocents. Hirelings devouring the sheep.

I am not a Catholic, and was not defending any religion in my post. I believe the problem is Mel, and he is one sick cookie. I had been wondering if some recently added meds may have add "fuel to the fire" to some underlying problems. His former family life does not add up to what we are witnessing now.

Whatever is going on, He diff needs a “time out” far, far away. His current very bad fruit screams for major intervention and spiritual surgery by Jesus Christ. Hopefully for all concerned, there will be no opportunity for insane "sound bites". You are so right when you say "the left" is loving this.

I pray he doesn’t do anything even more extreme than he already has done. He probably needs a sebatical. He needs to get away from the news. He needs to re-read Gal. 6:12 every morning and night for a solid month: Do good things unto all people — ALL people [especially unto the Brotherhood of Faith]. More importantly, be good to all people. God loves ALL people.

Good advice...

Sorry, I do not find "The National Enquirer" a credible source or, what is it called, "Celebitchy".

Classy

When bloody, gory movie producer Mel is studying Gal 6:10, sure hope he doesn't backtrack to Gal 5:12. Here Paul expresses his anger toward the Judaizers, who were busy pushing the "circumcision is your salvation" heresy to the Galatians.

Paul got real lovey dovey to all, when he wrote, "As for the agitators, I wish they would go the whole way and emasculate (castrate) themselves."

The National Enquirer is responsible for pursuing the John Edwards story and was nominated for the Pulitzer Prize.
***

Barry Levine, the Enquirer’s executive editor said, “The heavy lifting that we did on the John Edwards story was more than anything the Times did on Spitzer. and they won the prize.

In the back of my mind, it’s clear to me that if this reporting had been done by the New York Times, or the Washington Post or a big paper like the LA Times, it’s almost certain they would have won the prize.

Prize or no prize, we’re going to continue to be out there, we’re going to continue to break big political scandals,” he said.

Oh, is it ‘Gal. 6;10.’? I’m bad a memorizing numbers. Thank you for the subtle correction. But I mess up so much I hardly care anymore. [Grin.]

Gibson is riding on the edge with a Scottish temper that pre-dates their Christian conversion. I am concerned. If he ever gets straightened out, he could do good works under the radar. Public image rehab is out. That girlfriend got even with him big-time. His wife was a treasure and loyal. All in ruin, but the memories are ashes for new seeds.

There are two kinds of people — hot and cold. Hot people care and get things done. But their tempers and judgments get them in trouble. Cold people take a free ride, but they say the right things and make the right moves. That’s one reason why the free market is superier to communal alternatives.

FRegards ....

The L.A. Times has been repeatedly nominated for the Pulitzer Prize, plus won. I don’t consider them, or most of the MSM, to be credible sources.

As much as that pack of wolves hate Christ, along with those claiming to be Christians, don’t you think the stories of Mel’s alleged numerous affairs would be woven throughout his long first marriage, complete screaming front page headlines everyday, all day. Kinda like now.

The devil and the liberal media absolutely HATE what Mel Gibson did with the Passion of the Christ.

God only knows how many thousands (perhaps millions) of people accepted Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior as a result of watching that movie. Mel Gibson might very well be the most successful evangelist (in terms of bringing numbers people to Christ) of all time.

After the “Passion” I remember Mel talked about wanting to direct other Biblical movies - I would really like to see him do this. I’ve always thought that he alone could make a movie about abortion that would make it so real and personal it could literally help to overturn Roe v. Wade in this country.

From the time the “Passion” was released, Satan and the liberals have recognized what a threat Mel is to the kingdom of darkness and have tried to take him out in any way possible.

Mel Gibson needs our prayers right now and not our criticism. He has been used mightily by God - and I believe can be restored, with a great testimony of God’s grace, and continue to do what the Lord has gifted him to do.

Please pray for him.

“Dear Hitch;
For real, full-on, unadulterated violence and hatred, you might do better looking at pagan National Socialism and atheistic International Communism ...

But that might be too close to home. “

Good One!

I laugh when a non-leftie has a scandal and the left say that this proves the entire belief/Org/Party is over.

Funny this never happens when the embarrassing event happens to:

Clinton
Gore
Kennedy
Kennedy
Kennedy
Kennedy
Sean Penn
Madonna
B. Frank
C.Dodd
Rangel
(fingers getting tired now)
