Erik Scott ran with the bulls in Pamplona and jumped out of airplanes while training to be a paratrooper.
A West Point graduate who commanded battle tanks, everything he did in life he did with zeal.
"He reached for the stars and always wanted that new challenge," said his mother, Linda Scott, one week to the day after he was shot and killed by Las Vegas police officers.

12 out of 40 witnesses ‘say’ they saw him pull out ‘something’, which they were told by police was a GUN.
(you can get 12 out of 40 people in Vegas to tell you they saw ELVIS land in a spaceship too.)
One witness stated that he saw Mr. Scott pull out a Zippered Holster Pouch , which he recognized because he had one at home just like it.
My question is, what did the other 28 witnesses say?
Note the POLICE have only been offering the testimony of witnesses who say they saw a gun, to the media.
Cold-blooded murder. Someone might get temporary suspension with pay.
We are now a third-world nation.
None of us do. No video.
However, only a MINORITY of witnesses (were they even where they could see this?) say he pulled a gun.
Were they facing the proper direction? Remember, Mr. Scott walked out the door following other people. If he had a gun in his hand, or everyone 'knew' he was the culprit, they would haven't been walking out the door single file, ahead of and behind him.
From what I read, they 'herded' him over towards a nearby garage type door (automotive?) which temporarily isolated him from the group walking out with him.
He turned around, they yelled at him with guns drawn and then fired when he reached for the zippered pouch. There are various versions to this, according to witnesses and police.
The one thing that would prove what happened, is being withheld by police, who first claimed (Capt. Neville) that "we don't even know if they have SECURITY VIDEO".
Sure... COSTCO is such a small operation they can't afford GUARDS and VIDEO CAMERAS. And this 'incident' with Mr. Scott involved two different COSTCO security employees, and all the COSTCO staff. Surely there was plenty of time to 'train' one of the security cameras on the bottled water incident. If SECURITY didn't get VIDEO of it, they should be fired from COSTCO for not trying to protect the company and employees from litigation by ensuring the exchange was recorded. This should have been, but wasn't a 'minor' situation. It involved a call to POLICE.
I sure as hell wouldnt have.
If there WAS VIDEO, and we saw it, and Mr. Scott didn't pull out a gun, then whether you would have, or not, you would also be dead.
There are so many things wrong with this whole situation, times in general for that matter.
For once it would be nice to just know the truth, unabated and irrefutable....let the chips fall where they may.
Seems like that is too much to ask for these days though, very frustrating indeed.
Yep, these days you have to get on your knees and beg for your life.
Me? Every cop involved would spend the rest of their lives looking over their shoulders until the day I found them.
Hah! The jokes on you! I don't have a COSTCO Card!
Why not the cops failed to learn how to deal with a man with gun call? Two rookie cops and one with a questionable shoot history. You should know better than to make judgements without knowing the facts. Shame on you.
Shame on yourself for denying the fact that stupid cops are a known risk a gun carrying citizen should expect and be prepared to deal with or better to go unarmed. Who made their own fatal mistake?
Being armed is not the issue, just ask this guy. He went unarmed. http://abclocal.go.com/wtvg/story?section=news/local&id=7433661
Right , being armed without the training, mindset and survival instincts that would not be confused with one wishing to commit suicide by cop, is the issue, the one issue that cost this gentleman his life.
Whre are you getting your information. Alot of people will want to know. Goes back to the original problem with your post, the lack of considering the evidence. If you have some information, come forward and provide to LVPD.
His mistake was encountering cops. Pray you don’t “encounter” any with similar disposition. Cops are NOT your friends.
It doesn’t matter what you do if they just shoot you. Hell they can shoot you in the back of the head while handcuffed and just get involuntary manslaughter. You try that sometime.
I seriously doubt it.
The more likely scenario is somehow along the way these cops failed to learn how to deal with a nonthreatening civilian with no weapon (at least initially) in his hand, in broad daylight, in a peaceful crowd, with them having overwhelming force and with other less lethal means readily available.
For cryin' out loud. This was not a take down of an MS-13 killer in the barrio, or a squad of Crips crack dealers in a midnight raid, or a riot at 2 AM by outlaw bikers in a biker bar. This was a peaceful individual who apparently was no immediate threat to anybody - as evidenced by the unaware crowd around him and many witness accounts.
It sounds like the cops screwed up, big time. If so, they should be held accountable for gunning down an innocent man - whether in cold blood or through appalling negligence and poor police procedure.
The fact that neither the 911 recording has been released or any video leads one to the conclusion something is dreadfully wrong here. Maybe it will be fully investigated or maybe it will be an attempted cover up. Only time will tell, but the media and the public should demand concrete answers, not just accept an embarrasing or whitewashed shooting by several untrained or trigger happy cops who habitually get away with it in other, more threatening scenarios.
If what apparently happened in this shooting is "standard" police procedure, all of us who are law abiding CCWs should be outraged and afraid. Very afraid.
If you fail to conceal, even the slightest printing ,cops will be called . If you make a wrong move during the contact, which includes having your hand anywhere near your weapon at any time, it is very possible you will be killed. Yes, be afraid, be very afraid and get trained or leave the gun in the safe.
I had never seen that one before. The cop gunned him down without hesitation and without provocation. That's disgusting. The cops in this country are out of control.
You're missing my point. I don't think poor training on Mr. Scott's part (assuming poor training, which is a big assumption on your part) had much to do with this.
It's not a question of "printing". Everyone who carries will do that at some time or another. It's a question of police procedure and how the cops apparently botched the situation. They turned a peaceful, controllable incident into a homicide - whether through ignorance or poor procedure is yet to be revealed. Or maybe it never will be if they successfully cover up this embarrassment.
From almost all witness reports (except, perhaps, the police, as they gather 'round to protect their own turf), it is extremely unlikely Mr. Scott was any sort of an aggressor here. Nor was it his intent to be one, nor should he have been placed in a position where it could be perceived he was one. Likely, he was just trying to follow confusing and conflicting shouted police commands. If anything, he followed the wrong commands, to his detriment.
I stand by my previous statements. People shouldn't expect to be gunned down unexpectedly by cops because of poor training and procedures on their part. It doesn't matter whether they have broken open a case of sport drinks, or not.
Looks like you'll be waiting a long time, then, bud.
