Ac Active First Family Is On The Move In Maine By Felicia Sonmez July 18, 2010 BAR HARBOR, MAINE -- President Obama and his family aren't just getting outside the Beltway on their brief vacation here -- they're getting outside, period.
Since their arrival Friday afternoon, the Obamas have been biking, hiking and boating their way around Mount Desert Island, the third-largest island on the Eastern Seaboard and home to the 47,000-acre Acadia National Park.
The first stop Friday was a 90-minute bike ride on the lushly wooded trails around Witch Hole Pond at the northern end of the island. Then came a family hike on Cadillac Mountain, at 1,530 feet the highest peak on the East Coast.
The Obamas rounded out their first day with a National Park Service boat ride on Frenchman Bay and a waterfront dinner at Stewman's Lobster Pound. Even dinner was outdoors: The first family, who arrived at the restaurant via boat, sat at a table on a pier overlooking the bay. The president and the first lady dined on lobster, while their daughters shared a shrimp basket, according to restaurant manager Jeff Buffington.
Diners on the pier may have been pleasantly surprised, but back in Washington and elsewhere some saw hypocrisy in the first family's two-day trip. On a recent trip to the Gulf of Mexico, Michelle Obama encouraged other Americans to visit the oil-fouled region.
Conservative pundit Michelle Malkin took a shot last week in a column titled, "Michelle Obama: Take Your Vacation in the Gulf, America -- If You Need Us, We'll Be in Maine." And Scott Stanzel, a deputy press secretary during the administration of George W. Bush, said on Fox News that the president could be "setting an example" but "has chosen not to do that."

My mother just told me tonight she saw Michelle Obama telling people to vacation in the south around the gulf to bring them business, and then noticed the Obama’s went and vacationed in Maine.
In answer to the question you inserted in the headline:
No, we didn’t see headlines like this when the Bushes were on vacation. That’s because the Bushes had class and didn’t go out of their way to strut their stuff in front of the cameras.
It’s all a giant photo op, but I’m OK with it. I like it when Barry0 is distracted and out of Washington.
(Flying that unruly dog on his own plane is a bit much, the Obama version of “let them eat cake.”)
I suspect the Obana PR office issues a press release each day and the MSM rewrites it and sends it to press. They all say essentially the same thing.
Well, we didn’t see headlines when GWB and family vacationed, but the talking heads on tv used to crow about it. Meanwhile, I’d venture that most of his vacations involved some work. He never fully escaped his duties as President.
You guys are blowing this one out proportion.
Its his vacation. Let him go where he wants.
What kind of vacation would it be going to down the gulf now.
He’d be hounded like a dog.
Very crowded place in July. I’m just thinking of the people who planned their whole family vacation around this place and aren’t able to go anywhere now because of the Obamas.
Who cares about that Communist?
Since we live on a farm and have younger children, we are active by default.
It’s kind of comical to see the Obamas making such a big deal about being SO active ... only to end every outing at an ice cream parlor. 500 calories of Cookies & Cream or whatever to make up for the 50 they worked off hiking or biking ;-)
Obama is praised for being such an active, family man on his vacation.
But when Bush was in office, the media trashed him for being a free loader. Double standard anyone?
“Bush on track to become the vacation president”

“At a White House press conference Thursday, Bush appeared to be already inhabiting his vacation mode, shedding the businesslike, sometimes grim demeanor he’s had of late to slouch against the podium and be avuncular.” http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/metropolitan/mason/5042364.html
She took the kids to see the pond those nice people named after her.
Witch hole pond.
"Weezie" and Bambi...."Movin' on up"!
Well I spent my weekend vacation removing candy colored rocks around in my garden..it was hot sweaty work..no ice cream cones here...don’t ya know by 2014 all of us serfs have to be weighed like cattle and a BMI index put into electronic medical records...so we don’t get ice cream cones or ice cones or fancy white house pies or even popcicles now...we have to do the Michelle 0bama diet program so we will be ready to report to weight watchers.
Arriving in a small jet before the Obamas was the first dog, Bo, a Portuguese water dog, and the president's personal aide, Reggie Love, who chatted with Baldacci. "We're ready, we're going to do it all," he said with a big smile.
Is this really necessary for a weekend visit???
It's not going over well with the “locals”...but u won't see that in the press...
