NEW ORLEANS â Oil stopped gushing into the Gulf of Mexico from BP's busted well Thursday for the first time since the disastrous spill began, the oil giant said. It was the most significant milestone yet in BP's effort to control one of the worst environmental disasters in U.S. history.

How long till the headlines giving Obama credit for this start appearing.
“Obama says oil leak plugged”
This is incorrect. Obama choked the oil off...../s
If the valve holds, open it up and start pumping. There is a lot of oil down there. No point letting it go to waste.
Hey, um...BP? can we get another cap so we can choke off all spending from our busted government?
Has MSNBC aired their special yet?
Oh daddy....You got the hole plugged but we still want to go to Maine.
YAY!!!!! DADDY PLUGGED THE LEAK?
I agree with you 100%. It’s an oil well for cripes sakes....AND THE WHOLE PURPOSE OF THE EXPLORATION.
That is great. Now the mitigation efforts can improve things rather than just lose ground less quickly. The relief wells have a better chance now as the well integrity seems confirmed.
Now we will see if the purpose all along was to cap the oil leak or to tap the oil leak.
Everyone benefits from the oil from this well...so I’m sure Obama will say....NO OIL FOR US!!!
A couple months ago, I promised that we would do everything.....blah, blah, blah.....
The purpose of the well was OIL....If we can capture 100%...go for it!!!
Here is a Market Watch story giving some technical details. Also, BP is now over $40 on after hours trading with a large volume of traders. Apparently, someone is proposing a law in Congress forbidding BP to be in the Gulf. Don’t know if it is new drilling, or all wells already there. What is needed is careful supervision in my opinion. [NOTE: I own some BP shares.]

No Shi'ite! They plugged it! Alright!
I'm on a roll, uhhh, Financial reform and a plugged well .
Yay for BP!
No you can’t mess around with that well any longer. It is way to unstable to even think about it. The only reason you pump it is if you believe that the fix will not hold. Rather you drill the relief well and re-channel that petrol to a more stable well. Which I believe is what BP was hoping to do all along. But time will tell. You have to figure, this gusher was pumping out 60k barrels per day. It is one well in what will be a field. There could be the potential to drill 20-30 more wells here which could produce over 1 million bpd. That’s qualifies as a major field, we’re talking of Saudi proportions. Numbers were passed around that this is the 2nd largest pool of oil in the world. Do the math.
