Blistered by Republican legislators, some residents and the Minutemen for being soft on immigration enforcement, Salt Lake City Police Chief Chris Burbank has the strong backing of City Hall.
Sort of.
In an impromptu move Tuesday, City Councilman Soren Simonsen suggested the council pass a resolution supporting Burbanks controversial stance against an Arizona-style anti-immigration bill.
The chief is out there taking a lot of heat, said Simonsen, but shouldnt feel like hes on an island. A resolution, he predicted, would send the broader community a loud message that Burbank, Mayor Ralph Becker and the council are speaking with one voice.
