Yamaha Motor Co. said Wednesday it will start selling its "EC-03" electric motorcycle on Sept. 1.
The company projects annual sales of 10 million units of the model, priced at 252,000 yen. The bike is scheduled to be released in Taiwan and Europe begining next year, the company said.
As Honda Motor Co. plans to begin leasing its new electric motorcycle to domestic companies and other entities in December, eco-friendly motorcycles could become widely used.
According to Yamaha, the EC-03 model is powered by lithium-ion batteries and does not emit carbon dioxide. As the size of its body is nearly the same as a 50cc scooter, the model will cater to people with 50cc motorcycle driver's licenses.

50cc’s is a scooter, not a motorcycle.

“runs on lithium-ion batteries and does not emit carbon dioxide”
Just ignore the coal that is burned to produce the electric for the battery.

It can run 43 kilometers after being charged for about six hours. Sounds like something you would ride around in the mall rather than to the mall.

I love, “the EC-03 model is powered by lithium-ion batteries and does not emit carbon dioxide.” I’m quite sure that Lithium-ion batteries are made without creating CO2; just as I am sure that the electricity used to charge the battery causes no emissions. Obama must have switched all generation to wind, hydro-electric, and Atomic while I slept. And we all know that the hardware for those is made without petroleum, CO2 or any thing but unicorn breath.

Don’t sweat the rolling brown outs, either.
Also, you can take the expired batteries and throw them in the trash, right?

"It can run 43 kilometers after being charged for about six hours." The Smart ED has (conservatively) an 84 mile range between charges & you won't get wet when it rains!

They already have these...there’s always 4-5 of them charging up near the door at Wal-Mart.

I'm still trying to sell the Vespa LX150 my wife wanted as a starter bike. She is far happier on the Piaggio BV500. I'm back in San Diego until the end of August...and my 2008 Harley Roadster is sitting in the garage in Idaho. It was too heavy and low slung to get up on my current trailer. The Versys is with me again. It has turned over 8,000 miles already. I'm hoping to sell the 3 rail trailer I used to get the Versys down here and purchase a Kendon BB207 dual rail trailer. That will properly haul any bike in my stable.
