A new poll shows Arizona Sen. John McCain widening his lead over his Republican challenger ahead of next month's GOP primary.
The Rocky Mountain Poll released Wednesday shows McCain leading former U.S. Rep. J.D. Hayworth 64 percent to 19 percent. Political newcomer Jim Deakin had 5 percent.
McCain's margin has widened from a 54 percent to 28 percent lead he held over Hayworth in the same poll in April.
The telephone poll was conducted by the Behavior Research Center between June 30 and July 11 and has a margin of error of plus or minus 5.4 percentage points. Pollsters surveyed a random sample of 334 registered Arizona voters, including 190 Republicans and 144 independents who said they would vote in the Republican primary.

332 of those surveyed must have been hispanic...
Just another straw-grasping attempt by the McCain camp to get JD supporters to give up. Personally, I like Deakin... but I’d rather have JD than McCain.
The 3 upcoming debates are JD’s best hope to overcome Juan. He MUST hit Juan hard on his hypocrisy re: immigration & amnesty, tac cuts, etc.
I think they polled his mother and chubby kid.
And Sarah McPalin had to fake being a conservative to support him.
Is he getting democrat crossover? I find it hard to believe that someone smart enough to vote republican is stupid enough to vote for McCain.
Are the primaries open primaries in AZ? Are Dem’s fueling this poll?
That's how the Obamaidiots win. If McQueer gives us control of the Senate I would vote for him provided he was the only AZ Republican candidate.
Lol ...McPain finally told enough lies to win...he will change right after the election
Obviously, JD has quite a hill to climb. He has my hopes and prayers and sometimes huge upsets happen.
blah blah blah, or it could be Hayworth is a loser
I suppose if you're running as a fiscal conservative and do an infomercial like that, it doesn't help.
But do the people of Arizona have short memories? Have they forgotten why they needed the Arizona illegal alien law in the first place? John McCain was going to push for amnesty for these invaders, the same ones who murdered their fellow citizen, the rancher (name escapes me at the moment)! Have they forgotten how often this man "crosses the aisle" and stabs his fellow party in the back? There is no way I'd vote for this guy if I lived in Arizona.
J.D. needs to be doing more to remind the voters of what they will get if John McCain wins the primary.
Palin has nothing to do with it.
She has no control over AZ voters. Many of her supporters do not agree with her on this and will support JD.
Didn't take long for the Sarah strawman to be posted.
Maelstrom, that commercial sure equals this doesn’t it. /s
Why do you have such a boner for McCain? My only conclusion is that you support what he does. Is that it?

Are Arizona Republicans as stupid as California Republicans? The results will be telling.
This should have been posted with a "CRAPOLA ALERT!!!"
1. Arizona has an open primary (both parties can vote for McCain)
2. It’s never easy to unseat an incumbent from your own party
3. Hundreds of Palin commercials flooding the radio airwaves
4. Multiple Palin appearances with McCain in Arizona
5. Multiple Palin appearances on television supporting him
6. McCain shills flooding the internet with disinformation and disruption
Yep, it was J. D.’s to lose all right. And the sun is frozen solid too.
I’ll have to admit, it looks that way to me too.
McCain and his pond scum boosters, have pulled out every dirty trick in the book this go-round.
What else did he have..., his own record?
But the illegal immigration issue has just been revived in AZ and how can you not capitalize on that when McCain was so very very bad?
