A new poll shows Arizona Sen. John McCain widening his lead over his Republican challenger ahead of next month's GOP primary.
The Rocky Mountain Poll released Wednesday shows McCain leading former U.S. Rep. J.D. Hayworth 64 percent to 19 percent. Political newcomer Jim Deakin had 5 percent.
McCain's margin has widened from a 54 percent to 28 percent lead he held over Hayworth in the same poll in April.
The telephone poll was conducted by the Behavior Research Center between June 30 and July 11 and has a margin of error of plus or minus 5.4 percentage points. Pollsters surveyed a random sample of 334 registered Arizona voters, including 190 Republicans and 144 independents who said they would vote in the Republican primary.

If McCain wins, I am going to boycott Arizona.
John McCain: America is still the land of opportunity, and it is a beacon of hope and liberty and, as Ronald Reagan said, a shining city on the hill, McCain said. And were not going to erect barriers and fences.

I think Sarah Palin feels the need to be loyal to McCain personally. I guess from what I have heard they have a good personal relationship. I wouldn’t support him in a million years based on who he is as a politician, but I think it is a matter of personal loyalty to Sarah Palin. she would get just as much flack if she had not supported him.
I’m tired too. I wouldn’t be saddened to see him go. I’m also tired of those who rush from the arms of one bad date to another. What we need are real people in congress, people who are “stupid enough” to believe the constitution and stubborn enough to not change their minds once in Washington. Have we had enough with men and women who view themselves as kings? We need those who believe in self govt not big govt.
Rush Limbaugh: “Conservatism wins every time it’s tried.”
Well, not every time.
And depends on the candidate.
And the local voters.
And the current “crisis” flavor of the day.
Other than that, every time.
McCain is using conservative rhetoric to win. Too bad it's just rhetoric.
My folks live out in AZ, and the impression they get is that a lot of folks think Hayworth is "slippery" like a snake oil salesman. The infomercials in which he was shilling for people to get "free government money" didn't apparently help that impression.
Rush is speaking of those already in office.
McCain is the #1 fraud in history.
” My folks live out in AZ, and the impression they get is that a lot of folks think Hayworth is “slippery” like a snake oil salesman “
Funny....I live near Hayworth, and I don’t run into people like this at all.
You "Bots" all sing the same tune.
I was a fan of Palins well before she was picked by McCain. That doesn't mean that I accept anything she does uncritically. That's the difference. You act like a member of a cult instead of an independent thinker. Palin is valuable to this Country for what she does, not because of who she is. When she does things against the interest of this Country, like actively campaigning for backstabbing McCain, I, and others, will call her out on it.
If her endorsement won't affect any voters, her endorsement would be meaningless and candidates, including McCain, wouldn't actively seek it.
I am not against Palin, but I won't accept her actions uncritically and I will fight against her, and anyone else, when I think she is on the wrong side. She apparently either thinks McCain is a "common sense conservative", in which case she would be incredibly wrong, or she knows he isn't and endorsed him anyways going against her own stated principles. Either way, it does not reflect well on her.
Maybe Hayworth has a packaging problem, then. People who live near him like him. People who don't interact with him personally don't. Sounds like he needs to get off the radio and start presenting himself to the voters more?
Bigger fraud than 0bama? Are you serious?
If conservatism won every time, we’d be re-electing Senator Herschensohn instead of Senator Boxer.
As much as I like Rush, this is one of his more egregious misstatements.
Sarahs a joke, right norge?
Shuuure. Yah. You betcha.
I should have said Republican history.
Conservatism would have won if Palin had stayed out of it. She came in the first month JD announced and placed a spiked heel right through his neck. He hasn’t been able to recover since. The poor Tea Party didn’t know what to do so they stayed out of it and JD hasn’t been able to raise much money since then.
