Pop after pop might feel good going down, but it can put on the pounds. That's the case with any higher calorie drink.

Illinois Public Health Institute CEO Elissa Bassler said, "Maybe changing the ways we use beverages can be a part of handling obesity."

The idea is spreading across the country and here in Illinois, home to the fourth worst rate of childhood obesity. Enter tax talk...

this must be a typo, I think you have to make more than $250,000 and drink soda, because I remember over and over obama promised not to raise taxes unless you made more than $250,000

Ahh, so now snack foods join the ranks of tobacco products. Of course, we all know this is just a money grab. If the government really cared about people being healthy, it would ban such “dangerous” food.

It’s the corn syrup, not the sugar that is the problem.

I can just see how this came about at the closed door meetings in Springfield...

"Okay guys, we need money... serious money... in a big hurry. Let's think of something that we can tax, fine, or confiscate that will help us fill this huge budget shortfall without making any cuts."

"Come on now people, any ideas are welcome... How can we take even more money from people and still keep our jobs?"

Whatever happened to the study that showed people gained more weight drinking diet drinks? Oh yes. It was buried. Can’t raise taxes otherwise.

The government will never ever tell me what I can or can’t eat or drink.

Fact is the majority of obese folks will always be obese because they don’t have the will to lose weight and keep it off.

Oh wait...I have the solution...send them to North Korea to a prison camp where they will eat next to nothing…maybe grass. Maybe we can have a prisoner exchange…Fat for thin.

Will I be arrested for tax evasion for selling carbonated, flavored, caffeinated, caramel colored water without sugar, with instructions to people to add sugar to their taste?

“I think you have to make more than $250,000 and drink soda, because I remember over and over obama promised not to raise taxes unless you made more than $250,000”

My impression is that this crew believes those who drink sugared soda are too dumb to even notice.

“Illinois Public Health Institute CEO Elissa Bassler said, “Maybe changing the ways we use beverages can be a part of handling obesity.””

Maybe letting kids play in the schoolyard, do more in gym other than let kids play with their game boys and have intramural sports would keep kids in shape. Instead of teaching them about sex, you could teach them about nutrition and a healthy lifestyle.

Nahhh.....

Illinois obesity problem is actually part of "the Chicago syndrome".

What happened is the Daley gang made it unlawful for law abiding people to own guns to protect themselves. At the same time they cut back on police patrols and training.

In the end only the criminal gang members had guns and the cops were nowhere to be seen.

People in Chicago began keeping their children indoors to keep them safe from drive-by gang-bangers.

The kids got fat.

Now that honest people there are in sight of the right to keep guns to protect themselves it should be no time at all for the kids to work off all that extra fat.

Now, if they can just learn to pull the Republican lever and reject the Daleys and their running dog lackeys the place could return to near perfect balance.

IMHO this is very unfair to many of us who might have to have something like this handy for taking care of low blood sugar.
