...the near future:
Augustus Merryweather IV glanced up at the tapping on his office door. Harvey Carbunkle stood there...
"You're firing me?"
"I have no choice. Your work, ...it hasn't been up to the standard we expect for an editor at Merryweather Publishing. Frankly, I'm surprised. When I saw that you were a graduate of BU, I couldn't wait to hire you..."
A proud smile. "Yes, sir. That's Beck University."
Augustus was confused. "I've never heard of..."
..."You know, Glenn Beck? ...He founded an online university back in 2010 so people could learn the real truth they don't get in your so-called 'universities.'"...
"So, when you rejected that Martin Luther King biography because it didn't mention how white conservatives started the civil rights movement..."
..."And when you told the author of that book on religion that 'pinko commie' is the preferred term for preachers who talk about social and economic justice..."
..."And when you asked why there was no reference to Nazi death panels euthanizing children in that book on health care reform..."
...Augustus regarded the man who perched before him. "Harvey," he said after a moment, "you can't believe all that garbage they filled your head with. None of that stuff is true! It's just the rantings of a paranoid nutjob living in an alternate reality. The facts " ..."My God, man; are you crying?"
...Harvey shrank back, looking horrified. "No, sir!" he shouted. "No, sir! Professor Beck warned us about people like you. He said you'd try to confuse us with all your 'facts' and your 'logic' and your 'reason.' Well, Harvey Walter Carbunkle is on to your game!"
..."It's just that I love my country so much and I'm frightened for her future."
Augustus shook his head. "I know just how you feel," he said.

Your screen name describes the author better than mine does. :)
Oh, please.
Beck is calling on people to read original sources.
And I agree, at some point you need to do that. Recent analysis is good but you need to have read the original.
Did you guys see this? Is it me, or is he getting wilder and wackier? (As an aside, Rush said three white guys DID start the NAACP. Is that point in dispute, or is Pitt just out of touch?)
Pitts is reaching.
It’s like when the Obama website had their “fight the smears” page or when Snopes lumps in some more outrageous claims to be able to declare some other statement “false” by proxy.
E.g. Obama did not attend a “madrassa” and was not “sworn in on a koran” but he was enrolled in school listed as a muslim student and by his own admission in “his” autobiography attended koranic studies classes. His website proclaimed that Barack Obama was a lifelong Christian.
So who baptized him and when considering his mom was agnostic, his 2 dads were muslim, and his grandmother was a unitarian?
Pitt’s ranting. If he wants to debate ANY one of those 3 issues he called “false” (and discuss surrounding elements to those statements), then he would be writing an editorial. Here he’s not writing an opinion piece, he’s manufacturing quotes, ascribing them to Beck and Beckheads, and then rejecting them as falsehoods.
Nothing but propaganda. Nope. Don’t “think outside the box” anymore. Don’t “question authority”.
There is academic bias. There is. Same as there is media bias.
And it IS NOT GROUNDED IN FACTS AND HISTORY.
The Stalinists revised history to suit their needs too.
Robert Byrd’s KKK status was excused because “he needed the votes” even though he also voted against the 1964 Civil Rights bill. What a whitewash of history that just was.
Thanks for that information. I wonder if Pitt knows any of it, or if he’s pretty much ignorant?
Did you know that Pitt was permanently banned from posting on DemocraticUnderground? I wonder if that messed with his head, or if he’s always been this wacky?
Anyway, I thought Beck ridiculed the Birthers? I, for one, think there are multiple, extremely/fundamentally valid questions about Obama’s long form BC and all the other documentation he’s got locked away from public view. But I didn’t think Beck was of the same mind. Hmm.
The “birther” issue is different than Snopes/Obama’s denial of any muslim heritage in Obama’s upbringing (beyond his name).
Like I say, it’s easier to cast doubt on the entire story by introducing some strawman claims that are easy to knock down.
Same as when the Democrats said Bush was bringing back the draft. And then it was shown the only legislation to bring back the draft was sponsored in the House and Senate by Democrats exclusively. College kids shrugged and said “can’t trust Democrats OR Republicans on this!”. The smear worked and enough doubt was cast on the Republicans who held no hand in bringing back the draft (this happened in the 2004 election).
Pitts is a “big dummy” to put it lightly. If you go to the original Houston Comical link, you can read through the comments where the Rats try to parrot what they “feel” about history based on how the Pravda Media presents it.
Thanks for that clarification! Obama has told so many lies, they do tend to all run together after a while. But yes, I see the distinction. A person would have to be completely uninformed or willfully blind to buy the ‘lifelong Christian’ claim.
And don’t worry about Snopes. I’m onto their bias.
It’s a shame so many Dem tactics continue to work, though. Like Rush said, the Dems are counting on an uninformed electorate. Here’s hoping by Nov more people have woken up and smelled the coffee.
Augustus shook his head. "I know just how you feel," he said.
Leftists love these little "truth moment" fictive secular-redemption vignettes, since they validate the leftist worldview. They are the wise Promethian elect (Augustus) who bring enlightenment to the benighted massman (Harvey). They mistakenly believe that their adversaries make political and social judgments as an emotional reaction to change and ambiguity. In fact, leftists are more likely to respond to emotional triggers, and reveal their authoritarian impulses when they respond. They hate Father (the state), but they strive to experience Father's discipline...they hate him for being distant, so they strive to un-man him and feminize him, thus humiliating him.
Here is a beautifully written, but inadvertent explication of how leftists reason, or should I say, react:
Pitts makes a bad case for his love of institutions of higher learning (especially for a fictional book author who is misinformed through the biases of his teacher).
The fictional manager who fires the dope initially thinks the editor went to Boston University, where the media school used to send all students through a class taught by Howard Zinn, Red Communist, and loather of all things American.
Ouch. That has to hurt.
It's very sad when the only way a liberal can win a debate is to create a fictitious exchanged based entirely on a straw man argument. Seriously lame.
His original column in the Miami Herald claims that Beck was on CNN (not Fox).

``Beck University!’’ said Harvey, the smile widening. ``You know, Glenn Beck? He has that show on CNN. Also, that novel, that other book, that radio program, that standup act, that line of athletic shoes and that cologne. He founded an online university back in 2010 so people could learn the real truth they don’t get in your so-called `universities.’’’ He made air quotes.
The editor in Houston corrected it to Fox. No note of the change in the Comical. Got to protect their own I guess.
