Should be subtitled: “Why You Can’t Trust the Washington Post”. Ben Bradlee knew damn well what the FBI was up to, and he went along with it.
Excellent article with another dimension to the story. Provides obvious corollaries to the “follow the money” dictum when seeking truth.
It puzzles me that even here, we don’t get much comment about the scary picture of the FBI essentially overthrowing a president largely because he was trying to reign it in and make it answerable to someone in the elected government. Hoover’s FBI ran wild. I am afraid that we have other agencies in the government today that are doing the same thing.
It was a major turning point, not high point. From then on journalism became a career that attracts narcissists looking for fame. That is why post-Watergate most news stories carry a byline below the title.
People possessing more or bigger things than a narcissist is in conflict with their vain view of self, so they develop into left-wing extremists. Narcissists harm those around them, and in one generation have destroyed the newspaper industry.
