LAS VEGAS -- Las Vegas Metro police on Monday identified the three officers who shot and killed an armed man outside a Costco store in Summerlin.
They are Officer William Mosher, 38, a five-year veteran of the department, Officer Joshua Stark, 28, who has been with the department since September 2008, and Officer Thomas Mendiola, 23, who joined the department in March 2009.

Citing pay as a sole metric to assess quality revealed an overly broad statement ad flawed metric.
So, you are now saying pay is not the metric to assess quality.
You said DOJ backed you up (federal cops, no less), so, please cite the relevant section.
Try taking the comment in context. The poster I was responding to had made a series of posts supporting the notion that cops were all highly qualified and extremely well trained.
How well trained can someone be after 14 weeks of school? Just how much of a professional?
Read the study and do some research. Its obvious you enjoy living in a police state. The study I posted is hardly irrelevant.
I take no side in this, just asking for clarification.
“I take no side in this, just asking for clarification.”
Yeah right, you’re innocent!
So a rookie with 14 weeks academy experience is now equal to a FBI agent or a Secret Service Agent.
Wow
“I think your anger is clouding you into a defensive corner.”
I like how you are trying to paint me as a angry out of control liar. Pretty much what cops do every time to people who challenge them.
All the while you ignore the mountain of evidence on the growing problem of abuse of power and corruption.
“Your percentages could be argued but I like the approach. The mix probably depends on the area, small town Nebraska vs Philly.”
Absolutely. It would depend on racial, social, economic demographics, population, urban vs. suburban. But that’s the way I’ve seen it in my lifetime, as I have worked with police a lot. I have the utmost respect for the “good guys” which I have worked with, but I consider most to be an average joe, with a bit of a bully streak, and not to rub the wrong way.
I’ve found that about half are normal people, but will abuse their power when upset, but that’s characteristic of, well, normal people...
I would add, that as a kid, LEO’s were very different, and that just as our military is being sabotaged at every turn (unclear goals, underfunding, repeal of DADT), that so the police are being groomed to be the strong arm of the new political class. What once was a (in my belief) noble profession, is anything but not, and getting worse by the day. I would note that the 3 officers in this case are relatively new, I think the most experienced has 5 years (IIRC). Very telling in my opinion. The “good guys” are being phased out, and the upstarts are taking over. Time will tell.
Come to the town I currently live in. NO LESS than 2 cruisers at every stop I have every seen. 3 is very, very common, even for little old people, anybody. Often as many as 4-5, and usually a K-9 comes by at some point, probably for intimidation...
What was the lie? That he wasn't armed? He was. That he wasn't being disruptive? Breaking up packages and putting them in a backpack then taking them out again is certainly out of the ordinary. The cops overreacted.
Sure. BUT, the employee who escalated this tragedy deserves equal blame.
Calling the police was an escalation? So any time a company calls the police it's an escalation and they're liable for what happens?
I just wanted to say, that I have heard similar allegations (of the studies on police brutality), but it was a few years ago, and in the Local paper. I’m looking to help clarify, but I would also note that just because you cannot cite a study off the top of your head, doesn’t mean you didn’t read it, or that it didn’t take place. There are literally hundreds of thousands of studies, and they’re not all easily searchable.
But, I’m not going to interject further, but I am trying to find any studies on the topic, and will ping your both if I’m able to find them this morning. Hope to get back to you.

There are numerous studies. Different ones show different results as is the nature of studies. Thanks for the reasonable response.
Seems everytime you question the police you get attacked. They label you as a liar, and a criminal who is just angry over his last arrest.
“Breaking up packages and putting them in a backpack then taking them out again is certainly out of the ordinary.”
Not really, its done all the time in a lot of stores. Sometimes its shoplifting but frequently its not.
“And yet all of the police seem to have the exact same story.”
They know what has to be the story so that they get away with it. Assuming there is anything to get away with, that is.
They all seem to forget about the security cameras.
“They know what has to be the story so that they get away with it. Assuming there is anything to get away with, that is.”
Eyewitnesses never have the same story. If the stories of two people are the same then something is wrong.
A man died, by all reports he was the kind of person we need in our society.
The police spokesman immediately release he was ‘going kinda beserk’, which sounds a lot like defamation if he doesn’t have anything to back it up. The cops never witnessed his in store behavior.
We must travel in different circles then. In all my years of shopping, including 10 years of shopping at places like Costco and Sam's Club, I've never seen it done. Ever. And if I did see it done, I would certainly assume shoplifting, and if I were a store employee I'd report it as such.
Do you think I've misrepresented him? Well, fallacy boy, here's your chance to prove me wrong. Show me Lewinski's real doctorate - not the fake one in a shady, uncredentialed, unapproved discipline that he appears to have largely made up himself. Show me his work at a real university with real classes and a real psychology program, not some online degree mill that he gave his credit card to so he could take "distance learning" courses. Show me where his work has been peer reviewed and published in an outlet that he doesn't own himself. Honestly - I'd love to see it if it exists!
We apparently do.
Methinks Non-Sequitur has spent a bit too much time in the Costco developing himself into a loyal part of their customer base. Probably lurks around the free sample tables, going back for seconds and thirds =)
