LAS VEGAS -- Las Vegas Metro police on Monday identified the three officers who shot and killed an armed man outside a Costco store in Summerlin.
They are Officer William Mosher, 38, a five-year veteran of the department, Officer Joshua Stark, 28, who has been with the department since September 2008, and Officer Thomas Mendiola, 23, who joined the department in March 2009.

From your post 39, that sounds far too stupid for a West Pointer to do.
Reaching for it and pointing it at the cop are two very different things. One of those descriptions also says it was in a padded case when he reached for it, and both are consistent with the witness reports who say one of the cops instructed the guy to “drop your weapon.”
And others who say he didn't. I guess we'll need to see the videos, if available.
Nonsense. When you need radar to tell if someone is 5mph over or write tickets to a motorist who was 8mph over because all of the traffic was, that has nothing to do with "safety" and everything to do with "revenue". That is why seatbelt laws are the new darling of "law enforcement". Big fines to tack on for a person bother no one. It is theft, and not surprisingly these thefts are way up since the economy tanked.
“That spokesman also stated that they found TWO weapons on the victim.”
Probably a totally different tool like a pocket knife.
Interestingly, if the local seat-belt law references the federal seat-belt law then [likely] you don’t have to have/wear a seat-belt in your fare if it was manufactured before 1968.
I hope these cops get put in with the general prison population. I really do.
Funny th8ing is, riding a motorcycle with no belt is not a “safety issue” but sitting inside a 3000 lb vehicle without it is.
the police do not have to wait until a gun is pointed at them before they fire.
Obviously. In fact the person does not even have to be holding a gun at all. He could be holding a taco for all they care, but if the cop wrongly mistakes that taco for a gun he feels he has free reign to open fire. And therein lies the problem.
By the way, the Tueller drill is pseudo-scientific nonsense based on a misinterpreted article from a trade magazine article in the 1980's. It was originally posed as a piece of "rule of thumb" style advice in that article and has not been scientifically verified in a controlled test.
Only one problem with your scenario. In this case the officers already had their guns drawn and aimed at the individual. Reaction time to simply squeeze the trigger is almost zero.
If the man’s gun never came out of the holster they had absolutely no reason to kill him.
A lot of CCL holders I know regularly carry a “boot gun” in addition to their primary weapon. It’s usually a small caliber backup pistol that fits in a pocket or a boot in case the primary handgun jams or something. As West Pointer with many years of firearms experience, it is not out of the ordinary that Scott would have carried a boot gun.
The cops in this country are out of control.
This was a murder by LEO....and they will get away with it, because they are the police. The superiors will rally around them and the union will provide a good lawyer and they will lie their a$$ off to cover it.
Please do not ask me to sympathies or morn the loss of any LEO when they are killed. I paint with a broad brush because if the, “good ones” dont stand up and point out the bad ones, in my book that makes them just as guilty. No better than someone who watches a murder and lies of fails to testify to cover for their buddy.
I don’t trust any LEO and I wouldn’t call one if my life depended on it. Funny thing is, I would be more likely to get shot by them than a common criminal....
LOL !
Funny th8ing is, riding a motorcycle with no belt is not a safety issue but sitting inside a 3000 lb vehicle without it is.
Silly person. You are trying to use logic and reasoning on a cop.
Yes, and plenty of typos....{:0)
How about fellow civilian? Can't stand cops who think they are in some sort of military unit. The police should never be confused with the military; the day that happens is the day the Republic dies.
If, and I admit this is unlikely, someone in Cosco called the police and made a false report of a man with a gun acting in a criminal manner, I would see if that act rose to the level of a felony. If so, does Nevada have a felony murder statute? Throwing people with guns into a confrontational situation in a crowded area through lies is criminally negligent, and if it results in someone's death then they should be held accountable.
That in no way effects to responsibility of the police. Their actions need to be evaluated based on what they knew at the time and how the situation unfolded. The guilt or innocence of the person who reported the crime is irrelevant to that evaluation.
“or write tickets to a motorist who was 8mph over because all of the traffic was”
“But mommy, all the other kids were doing it too” never passed the smell test when I was growing up.
