The man shot by police outside a Summerlin Costco store on Saturday was a graduate of the U.S. Military Academy at West Point with a master's degree from Duke University, friends said.
Army veteran Erik Scott, 39, was at the store near Charleston Boulevard and the Las Vegas Beltway with his girlfriend before three officers fatally shot him in a confrontation.

>Ahhh, the “plant” gun. It will probably come back as unregistered and the cops will receive a commendation for getting another illegal gun off the mean streets. A job well done.
The funny thing is that 70% of the unregistered guns that this police-force finds have the exact same serial number...
it must be that there’s an illegal gun production/smuggling ring hereabouts!
If I wanted to “win friends and influence people,” I’d tailor my comments to comport with the popularly held view but that would be dishonest!
Hey, feel free to comment, it’s just that other than the CCTV footage which strangely hasn’t seen the light of day, and eyewitness accounts which is a subjective choice on what to believe, there will be no hard facts. At some point, it’s a judgment call.
No matter how careful you are in concealing your weapon it is simply impossible to ensure that you will completely conceal in all circumstances and at all times.
What if you trip and fall, causing your jacket to fling up and accidentally revealing the weapon? It doesn't mean you "improperly" concealed or that you are "giving a bad name" to gun owners.
I'll openly grant you that a careful CC licensee should not let it happen often and should take steps to ensure that it doesn't happen often. But it is unreasonable to fault him for the one time that somebody else catches a passing glimpse of the gun under his shirt. And it certainly doesn't merit calling the cops on him and thereby leading to his execution in broad daylight.
Cops blowing someone else away. I rest my case. Doesn’t matter what color you are once a cop points a gun at you. If your not blue you could be toast.
“Welcome to Obamas America, replete with its own Gestapo.”
Authoritarian hostility to liberty is not an Obama phenomenon.
Very tragic. I’m sorry for your loss.
Very tragic. I’m sorry for your loss.
Correct, but these sort of incidents do have a way of increasing in frequency when a statist Democrat goon is in the Oval Office. Clinton with Waco & Elian Gonzales, the recent wave of these things under Obama...it’s almost like something subconscious clicks in the heads of cops and lets them know a petty dictator has their back.
Boy, thats a stretch. Here is a clue, if a cop is pointing a gun at you, don’t reach for yours.
And the LEO who is no different then a law abiding citizen (other than the fact he's a cop) is somehow more trust worthy with a gun than you?
Whoa, that's news to me, do you have any links to support that?
Would really like to know....
According to eyewitnesses, he didn’t. Now what?
It appears that Scott was given contradicting orders from different officers that responded. According to the various witnesses. He was required to obey all of their orders as part of his permit. If he did not have the gun in his hand they should have never given him orders to disarm that would cause him to reach for his weapon.

Pardon me Uri but that is a ridiculous position...I saw an old man get out of a car with a weapon exposed because the sweater he was wearing creeped up on the small of his back, saw it again in the store and let him know it was visible and to correct it.....no harm no foul.
If you scare the children, expect a confrontation. If you have a carry permit, I recommend you re-read it.
I can’t imagine a cop telling someone to reach for his gun, but who knows. And considering his military background, he had to understand he was considered a threat until the legality of his CCW was confirmed.
