n a push back against international efforts to save a 45-year-old woman from death by stoning, an Iranian justice official insists that Western media propaganda will not prevent him from carrying out the execution as soon as he gets final judicial approval.
Malek Ajdar Sharifi, the judiciary chief of Irans East Azerbaijan, says the crimes committed by Sakineh Mohammadi Ashtiani were so heinous that if she had only cut [off] the head of her husband, it would have been better than what she has done.
He told the Iranian New Agency in Tabriz, the provincial capital, that the verdict has been halted due to humanitarian reservations and upon the order of the honourable judiciary chief and it will not be carried out for the moment, he said. Whenever the judiciary chief [Sadeq Larijani] deems it expedient, the verdict will be carried out regardless of Western media propaganda.
Government officials, celebrities and ordinary citizens from around the world have joined international human-rights organizations in a growing campaign against the stoning sentence given to Ms. Mohammadi Ashtiani. She was first convicted on May 15, 2006, of having an illicit relationship with two men, for which she received 99 lashes. At a subsequent trial of a man accused of murdering her husband, Ms. Mohammadi Ashtiani was charged with adultery while being married. It is for that crime that she has been sentenced to death by stoning.
On the weekend, Mohammad Javad Larijani, the head of Irans High Council for Human Rights, lashed out against the international campaign to spare Ms. Mohammadi Ashtiani, while pointing out that stoning is rarely used.
The commotion that the Western media has started in connection with this case will not affect our judges views, he said, noting that the West is fixated on the form of capital punishment...

In the category of dark humor...heard someone say Obama should step in and get NASA to loan the Iranians some moon rocks.
The Iranian regime sure knows how to stick to its principles.
Yes that scene was almost too realistic and surreal at the same time. It somehow reminded me of a roman mob at a colosseum figuratively. To see her kids involved was just too much...
And I say you're a complete ass, you're also on the wrong forum.
Get it, or are you here to make FR look bad?
if he treated her as many husbands of islam treat their wives... it might be justifiable homicide...
teeman
Barbarians.
So I guess we are just arguing over the method of execution? so if Iran gave her a lethal injection would that make you feel better?
Because I have no problem with executing murderers.
Yeah, I guess we are....why don't we just impale the bitch, no....let's poke her eyes out and pour acid in her sockets.....oh wait, we could throw her in a combine.....get lost asshole.
“Though she was acquitted of involvement in his death, she was then convicted of adultery while still married and sentenced to death by stoning.”
She did not have anything to do with her husband’s murder.
I am for capital punishment for murderers.
You apparently are not.
Honestly, I would rather be stoned to death than be electrocuted.
Who are we to tell a sovereign state how that can or can not execute their murderers? Heck I don't even want the federal government telling my state how they can or can not do it.
so one of her lovers just coincidentally murdered her husband?
lol, right. And OJ was innocent /s
We have not seen the evidence presented in either case. You are assuming she knew her lover killed him and that might not be true and you are assuming she really did commit adultery. I take islamic convictions of women for adultery with oceans of salt.
As for OJ, the evidence was overwhelming and he has even written a book, If I Did It. He was guilty.
And you apparently don't know your ass from a hole in the ground.
Ever hear of the 5th?
I say before the execution we give em 999 lashes because you believe in shariah law.....accused and convicted without proof.
But who are we to say, after all, their culture is equal to ours, right, Neda?
Kittie alert!
WTF?
Conservatives don't believe in conviction and execution based on feelings nor do we believe adulterers should be given a death sentence. The muzzie court convicted her of adultery. That's why she's being stoned to death.
Adultery = death in the muzzie world, but only for the females involved, female rape victims or male homos. Got it?
You can be accommodated. There are some FReepers there in Texas to whom I'd like to introduce you. Maybe before they get there you will realize the depth and breadth of the insanity of that preference.
Hate women, much?
Wife leave ya for a sane guy?
Either there’s gotta be some personal psychodrama back story to such a barbaric attitude or you’re one merciless critter.
If I could, I’d let her go free just to spit in the face of that misogynistic sharia law crap.
