NRA Mulls Harry Reid Endorsement
Indy Posted Newspaper ^ | 7-11-2010 | Rudy Stettner

The National Rifle Association has puzzled many observers as well as angered its conservative members by remaining neutral in the contest for Nevada’s seat in the US Senate in November. In that race, Sharron Angle is challenging incumbent Harry Reid, running on the Republican ticket as a Tea Party conservative. Her own campaign site notes as follows her position on the right to bear arms.

IMO the NRA is like many ‘non-profits’ in that they have an financial benefit to keeping the status quo in place.

If the disease or problem is fixed then they’ll be out of a job. Certainly not all non-profits are like this.

Dang it! It is not the Tea Party! It is the TEA Party. TEA is an acronym for crying out loud! It stands for Taxed Enough Already.

I don’t know if it is intentional or just ignorance that causes people to call it the Tea Party.

The problem is the NRA has NEVER viewed the idea of having their allies gaining legislative control of the House or Senate a benefit.

Actually, if you don't control the flow of legislation you are open to all sorts of attacks by the opposition including attacks on your biological existence.

I suppose the NRA developed that blind-spot during the decades of Democrat/Socialist ascendance in Congress and the various state legislatures.

It's time for a change at the top in the NRA ~ first, I'd remove all of them and start over.

That must be a mighty fine gun range. Exactly what would you spend $60 M on?

Read the whole article at the link. The political calculations behind why or why not the NRA may or may not support Reid don't fit on a bumper sticker.

There is also another piece on this here: Is endorsing Reid on the NRA's calendar?

Bottom line: This issue is nowhere as clear-cut as we'd like. And the NRA hasn't done anything yet, so stop jumping to conclusions.

I doubt that the NRA will ultimately support Reid unless they really don’t understand their members because the firestorm of supporting Reid would be disastrous and any support they do get temporarily from the left will be gone after election day. I think it would be wise for Cox to be replaced because he clearly is causing problems in a year when the NRA should be riding high and proud.

>>The ugly truth about the NRA is that it exists primarily to perpetuate the NRA. Gun right are really only a means to an end.<<

Kinda like unions. Heck, often times even Churches. It seems to be a standard phase in the evolution of even “sincere” organizations created by human beings. We’re our own worst enemy.

Hence the need for Jesus’ sacrifice.

I read about that gun range, but am still wondering how a gun range can cost $60 million dollars. Most ranges I’m familiar with are canyons in the hills with wooden posts, old railroad ties, and a campfire sort of arrangement for hot coffee.

That must be one “H” of a gun range for that amount of money, or let’s be realistic, and suppose some of that money went to paint bullseye’s on associated targets.

I’ll look into this, ‘cause I really want to know.

The NRA is officially neutral on all issues that do not pertain to the right to bear arms. A candidate could be a left wing liberal on every issue except gun control and theoretically get an NRA endorsement if they were pro gun.
Well that just shows you how blitheringly stupid they are, if they think a commie spouting "gun rights" is as believable on the subject as a person who supports the US Constitution in general and the second amendment in particular.

The Black Panthers support gun rights. Let's all freaking endorse the Black Panthers!

(How far up the butt can one person's head actually go?)

All national organizations are suspect. They are all run by cotton-headed "professionals"... careerists... people, that is, who don't give a rat's patoot about the issues themselves.

I’m inclined to believe that as well, but I’m going to ask some questions, and look closely at the answers as there have been too many articles recently with discomforting information regarding the NRA, and their direction on matters of importance.

I don’t want to continue supporting them IF they are against the Conservative grain.

Why don’t you wait and see if the NRA actually endorses Reid instead of repeating this rumor again and again?

I have written them every day for the past week and a half, referring to my previous letters ... basically asking them if this was “true or false.” Silence. Deathly silence. Oh me, ... well that’s one bill may not have to pay next year when my annual membership comes due. (See, there’s always a bright side!)

I’m sure Reid likes to shoot, so he set this up to make him feel like he is in Washington, complete with paved and marked parking lot, deluxe stone/block buildings with complete toilet facilities, state produced signs with regulations, rules, etc, and the shooting lanes must have double barrier protection as well as range masters paid and salaried by the government.

This sort of resembles what Reid did in Washington when they remodeled the Capital Lobby. They spare no expense when they share an interest in it or use it.

I would also think that the contractor who built it, was owed a favor from Reid. It’s just that easy to explain.

If the NRA endorses Reid they will find themselves very very lonely.

I have advised the NRA that if they endorse Reid then I am done with NRA. Period.
