Democratic governors expressed "grave" concerns to White House officials this weekend about the Obama administration's suit against Arizona's new immigration law, warning it could cost the party in crucial elections this fall, The New York Times reported late Sunday.
The closed-door meeting took place at the National Governors Association in Boston on Saturday, according to two unnamed governors who spoke to the Times.
"Universally the governors are saying, 'We've got to talk about jobs, and all of a sudden we have immigration going on,'" Gov. Phil Bredesen of Tennessee, a Democrat, was quoted as saying. "It is such a toxic subject, such an important time for Democrats."
The Arizona law, which is facing a U.S. Justice Department challenge, requires police to question people about their immigration status while enforcing other laws if there's reason to suspect someone is in the country illegally.
"I might have chosen both a different tack and a different time," Gov. Bill Ritter Jr. of Colorado, a Democrat, was quoted by the Times as saying. "This is an issue that divides us politically, and I'm hopeful that their strategy doesn't do that in a way that makes it more difficult for candidates to get elected, particularly in the West."

Fear not, Rats! All the Rodent Party needs to do is get some luminaries from The Stupid Party to tell us all how they’re only “doing the jobs that Americans won’t do.”
These Democratic Governors got what they wanted. What’s the problem?
I know a guy right now who would clean toilets for $7.25 an hour being his unemployment is about to run out and his name isn’t Jose.
If the Dems manage to out-stupid the Stupid Party that’ll really be something.
The fact that their is a race to reach the heady heights of stupid by both parties, is not a good sign for the US and more importantly for its citizens.
Neither party is perfect, neither has all the answers, but it should still be amazing that one is so diametrically opposed to the other, and yet is able to capture nearly one third of the legal voters.
I am convinced that when you see a really stupid driver, they vote exactly the way they drive.
ooooooops, giant their, there, error.
This lawsuit goes far beyond the Sombrero, it’s calculated, incendiary and sinister!!!

“It is such a toxic subject, such an important time for Democrats.”
“...makes it more difficult for candidates to get elected, particularly in the West.”
There are many reasons to depsise these evil self-aggrandizing Demonrat scum, but their central focus and interests are always on themselves rather than the country. Collectively as a group, their “beliefs” have been, and always will be, perverse.
LLS
That is the heart of it. Their greatest concern isn’t for our country, or for their state, or for the Rule of Law, but that Arizona’s example might endanger their their re-election chances, and that they might be forced to pass similar legislation, which would be a poison pill for them with their liberal supporters. Talk about being painted into a corner.
This is a BS law suit! For the POTUS to make this kind of a challenge to a sovereign state is really telling.
Where Presidential power and authority are concerned O is behaving himself like a beggar at a banquet!
There will be NO limit to the kind and number of irregularities that O and his administration will commit before he is out of there.
Let’s not forget how this news was released - by an Obama appointee to a dignitary in a foreign country!
The best part is, now that they’ve got it started, they’ve put themselves into a nice little Catch-22, because if they continue to pursue it, they’ll lose, both legally and in terms of public opinion, and if they drop it now, they’ll also lose, because it will be clear beyond peradventure that the suit was solely motivated by politics in the first place.
The left’s ideas can be nothing BUT perverse,
considering that their ideology is based on lies,
from the father of lies, to further his agenda.
This Administration has its own agenda, and it has nothing to do with the wishes of the majority of Americans.
Tax Ritter can shut the hell up. As Denver DA this pussbag loosed a hoard of criminal illegals on the metro area in walk-away plea bargains.
Bredesen is a rare bird for a Democrat
a Fiscal Conservative
Tennessee has become one of the few Democrat lead states
that has remained financially relatively stable,
after some severe rocking of the boat with TennCare
He should probably switch parties...
Or better, involve himself with the “Tea Party”
He would be a natural fit, for the most part
Tennessee, of all states, should know intimately
the disaster coming with ObamaCare
