Missouri Republican Primary Poll (US Senate)
St Louis Tea Party ^ | July 09, 2010 | Bill Hennessy

Posted on 07/11/2010 7:21:28 PM PDT by Spydergoo

Yes, this is totally unscientific. I asked this question several months ago, and I want to see if the results have changed since then.

If the Republican Primary for U.S. Senate were held today, who would you vote for?

Chuck Purgason (75%, 297 Votes)

Roy Blunt (18%, 71 Votes)

Other (5%, 21 Votes)

Neither/Not a Republican (2%, 9 Votes)

Total Voters: 397

This poll will appear in this post and in the sidebar until Friday, July 16. Thanks.

Can you give a little background on Chuck Purgason for out of state people?

Sure. He’s a MO State Senator from West Plains, MO. He currently serves as Chairman of the Governmental Accountability and Fiscal Oversight Committee - where he’s been directly responsible for saving Missouri taxpayers 100’s of millions.

I absolutely would rather have a CommieCrate win than a RINO!
That way you can chose sides without having to second-guess who is going to shoot you down - case in point, Orin Hatch is NOT going to support Kagan filibuster!

On what are you basing this?

1)
March 30, 2010 - PPP(D):
http://www.publicpolicypolling.com/pdf/PPP_Release_MO_330.pdf
“Carnahan does lead Chuck Purgason 42-38 in a hypothetical contest. 82% of voters in the
state don’t know enough about Purgason to have formed an opinion of him.”

vs.

November 18, 2009 - PPP(D):
http://www.publicpolicypolling.com/pdf/surveys/2009_Archives/PPP_Release_MO_1118.pdf
“Republican State Senator Chuck Purgason is also running. He trails Blunt 53-16 in the
primary and has a 42-35 gap against Carnahan in a potential general election contest
that’s not likely to occur.”

So, in the latest poll, he’s down 4% with virtually no name recognition.

2)
Blunt is the current favorite to win the Republican Primary, but Purgason has momentum. What makes you think if he can knock out a dinosour like Blunt (who has almost 100% name recognition), that he can’t take on Carnahan (whom also has almost 100% name recognition)? I think both Blunt and Carnahan have peaked amongst their voting block. They can only go down from here.

3)
I live in Blunt’s district. You have no idea how much animosity he’s built up for himself with his pork-barreled spending, Cash-4-Clunkers/TARP/Medicare votes, and family lobbyest connections. I wouldn’t go so far as to label him a RINO, but he’s certainly earned the reputation of “Establishment”.

He's not running against an incumbent; rather a well known political creature with lots of money. Which, BTW, he doesent have as much of, nearly.

As for Blount, he would be reliable on most issues, rather unlike that egomaniac nutjob McVain or that dandy fop Lindsay Graham. I'm just not sure what Purgason brings to the table thats worth upsetting the apple cart.

Purgason brings fiscal integrity. Worth upsetting the apple cart.
