A lawsuit? Over toys?
The letter goes on to name the amount of money McDonald's spent in advertising, and then states, "By advertising that Happy Meals include toys, McDonald's unfairly and deceptively markets directly to children. When McDonald's bombards children with advertisements or other marketing for Happy Meals with toys, many children will pester their parents to take them to McDonald's."
My, my, my how awful! And parents can't possibly say no to their child! So thank goodness we have CSPI to say no for them!
CSPI alleges that, "Once there, they are more than likely to receive a meal that is too high in calories, saturated fat, added sugars, and sodium, and devoid of whole grains. Developing a lifelong habit of eating unhealthy meals is likely to promote obesity, heart disease, diabetes, and other life-threatening or debilitating diet-related diseases."
Gasp! People were dragged into McDonald's at the point of a gun screaming and kicking in protest. Then the food was jammed down their throats against their will. This is just horrible.
The letter goes on, you can read it for yourself. It is disgusting. I'd like to know who they think they are to dictate to ME, the consumer, as to what I think is appropriate or healthy for my child to eat or drink. The nutritional value of McDonalds food is not the issue here. The issue is that it is MY choice what to feed my child and not theirs. It is a little thing called freedom. I wonder if they have ever heard of it? As Mr. Skinner said in his letter of response to them, "Parents, in particular, strongly believe they have the right and responsibility to decide what's best for their children, not CSPI. It really is that simple."
Mr. Skinner also pointed out CSPI's disrespect for individual people who can make those choices: "When CSPI refers to America's children as an unpaid drone army', you similarly denigrate parents and families, because they are fully capable of making their own decisions. You should apologize."
Love it! We need more CEOs who can stand up like this, proudly, confidently and uncompromisingly.
If CSPI had any real and genuine concern for the children of this country, they would support the parent's right to choose for their own children what is best for them. They would not be fighting to take our rights away from us, but they would be fighting to restore them. Instead they pose as our mommy, telling us what we are allowed to purchase by threatening McDonald's. Thanks but no thanks. I don't need another mommy and neither does McDonald's.

Obama has lifted assholery to a whole new level.
Liberal scum is all about totalitarianism and there is only one way to deal with such filth.
Well said and so true.
The new Happy Meal.
Skinner’s letter mentions “frivolous”. McDonald’s should pursue this with a countersuit alleging frivolity and asking for the court to direct CSPI to pay for McDonald’s cost of defending against the litigation.
Making another false accusation in hopes of a pay off. Another form of a shake down.
You make an excellent point that’s all too true.
Many years ago, longer than I’d like to state I remember our recesses in grammar and middle school, we actually played hard and excercised, got tired out. It’s not happening now, I guess PE can’t be afforded by school districts.
Schools have eliminated PE because they’re so far behind in teaching basic skills that they don’t have time for it. They’ve eliminated recesses where kids run around because of lawsuits. And they’ve got longer school days, before-and-after-school care ... and lots of junk food available, too.
Great post, except...
You forgot two of their favorite targets, restaurants that serve gargantuan portion sizes and companies that make frozen dinners.
CSPI is a vile organization using emotional (read scare) tactics to convince people to eat what CSPI deems appropriate, no freedom of choice would be allowed.
If they could get away with it, they’d either modify every restaurant’s menu or shut them down. Same with frozen dinner companies.
I’m sorry to say that in the early ‘90s, we subscribed to their monthly “news”letter. It didn’t take me long to figure out what they were up to and we canceled shortly after-wards.
I can’t remember the name of that movie, but remember seeing it as a kid.
Can you help an old guy out and tell me which movie it’s from?
Thanks,

“Chitty Chitty Bang Bang,” starring Dick Van Dyke as an eccentric inventor.
I have a suggestion Mr Gardner. That you and your irk go inhale a bullet, do it for the children,do it for gaia
Thanks to you both, I just couldn’t place the scene, but it looked familiar.
May have to see if it’s in our personal library and watch it again.
Ahhh, the folly of being young again....if only for a couple of hours.
Public schools have eliminated PE because kids might discover that equal opportunity doesn’t mean equal outcome.
Besides, the schools are too busy with their leftist indoctrination agenda, to be concerned with providing basic education.
