When foreigners visit China, they may find the red carpet rolled out for theman actual red carpet. Behind the flattering attention and well-orchestrated hospitality may lie years of meticulous research aimed at gaining influence over selected visitors.
Doing business in China is the greatest honor in my life, Steven Miller, director of a private storage company, told a New Epoch Magazine reporter. He was with other business professionals. The treatment Ive received is like a king: red carpet, excellent food, and local officials who are very responsive.
Sam Sullivan, former mayor of Vancouver, Canada, was equally moved and impressed during his time in China. When I go to China, they treat me like an emperor. And we dont have that tradition of that red-carpet thing, so its a little embarrassing for me in a way, he said in an interview with The Vancouver Sun.
According to the report, Sullivan recalled that on a trip to China as city councilor, he discovered that almost every major Chinese official at every city hall had his own dining room and his own chef to welcome guests.
Joe Trasolini, mayor of Port Moody, Canada, visited Beijing some years ago and was given similarly warm treatment. He met with the mayor of Beijing, and the city footed the bill for his travel expenses. The next time he visited China, although he paid for his own travel, he was entertained by municipal-level officials. After a few hours of sightseeing in the morning he would enjoy extravagant banquets in the evening.

P!
As in dealing with any other old wh*re - while she’s telling you what a helluva guy you are and giving your raspberries a squeeze, keep one hand on your wallet.
Only a fool mistakes such treatment for sincerity.
A country that treats businessmen like royalty, AND feeds pigmeat to Muslims?
China, you are making me love you.
chicom bump for later.......
Red China’s useful fools. These westerners are being manipulated by their hosts and are shown what looks like the best of Red China. They are not allowed to see the real side of what godless, corrupt totalitarianism actually does to those in China who don’t kow tow to the Party. They don’t see farmers robbed of their land, small house holders in cities pushed out for commercial developments, those relocated to poor land when the Yangtze River dam went up, rural youths working in factories for a few dollars a day under sweatshop conditions, long prison terms for petitioning for redress, etc.
When we went to China to pick up our little girl, there was always “government officials” nearby. They wore tan slacks and were posted in our hotel rooms, the lobbies, and any sights that we were pre-scheduled to see. Also, we were told by U.S. official to be wary of any emails or calls home because they would be listening. Also, the parents of our groups were NOT allowed to gather in two or more groups and would be told to “move away”. We were refused permission to visit any of the orphanages (the children were delivered to the hotel). Were there smiles on the “officials” faces? Yes. It didn’t take a rocket scientist to know that this is one oppressive place. The regular citizens never did one thing that we do: smile. It was not seen.
