Idaho Dem Minnick faces tough race (Chamber, 'tea party' find a Democrat to endorse - over Labrador)

Idaho Dem Minnick faces tough race
Chamber, 'tea party' find a Democrat to endorse
By Joseph Weber

On paper, Walt Minnick should be toast.

The Idaho Democrat barely squeaked into the House two years ago, winning 51 percent of the vote in a conservative district that preferred John McCain over Barack Obama in the presidential election by 26 percentage points. His district is the most lopsidedly Republican district in the country being represented by a Democrat.

But Mr. Minnick, a top target of the GOP this fall, has two unlikely champions in his corner: A leading "tea party" group and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce have backed him over his Republican challenger, state Rep. Raul Labrador.

"Those endorsements are not just about Walt," said campaign spokesman John Foster. "They're reflective of Idaho, which has a reputation of being ultraconservative, but with a long, long history of being independent."

The unusual endorsements do not guarantee an easy race for the Blue Dog Democrat. The most recent poll - taken by the state's only polling firm, weeks before last week's Chamber of Commerce endorsement - showed Mr. Labrador leading by 12 percentage points, but with 30 percent of respondents undecided. In a year in which the GOP is banking on major gains in both houses of Congress, the website RealClearPolitics lists the race as a tossup.

I wouldn’t be shocked if the NRA endorsed the rat as well. They are stupid like that.

The COC are a bunch of whores.

This “Tea Party” must be drinking Long Island Iced Tea. Laced with cocaine. I remember they called Minnick a “hero” a while back, the only rat so named. They’re just morons pure and simple. I guess they wanted one rat to like. Dumb idea cause there are zero rats that are worthy of it.

Auh2o is right though none of this will save Minnick. Amongst low hanging fruit his district is practically touching the ground.

Walt’s done. His campaign was very heavily pro-firearms rights, which is what drew the NRA’s attention. But that (D) next to his name is fatal if his opponent has an IQ better than a house plant. “Can we afford a Democrat majority after what it did the last four years?” The script writes itself.

probably his best performance outside of Texas or Utah.

Not quite.

Alabama 6th 78% Bush in 2004 according to CQ. (no rat has ran for the seat since 98!)

Louisiana 1st 70%

OK, two “bleached” suburban districts in the Deep South voted more Republican than the ID-01.

As I recall, the tea party endorsed Minnich immediately after he voted against health care. I thought at the time that was moronic. Any sane person would know that if his vote were needed, Minnich would have bowed and kissed Pelosi’s ring. Minnich was let off the hook because Stupak and his merry band of traitors caved.

Labrador only appeared on my radar screen during the primaries.

You know Minnick would vote for Nancy Lugosi as speaker.

If we elect enough Rs, at least she’s out as speaker.

As stupid and incompetent as the pubbies are, at least they don’t gallop toward destruction at the breakneck pace of the demonrats.

Was there any effort during the primaries to nominate a write-in candidate?

“Walt Minnick has raised $1.9 million,”

Leftists got where they are in part by making contact with individual voters: accosting them on the street, handing out flyers and pamphlets, holding rallies, haranging passers by with loudspeakers, going door to door...seeking to persuade.

All that in addition to their ever-present criminal activities, of course.

During the runup to the last election, only one person called me to try and get my vote—a demonrat. The pubbies didn’t even bother to make sure I knew where to vote, nor did they protest an 11th hour change of polling places. The only campaign literature I got was from demonrats. The Boise Weekly, the free birdcage liner, is far to the left of Marx and Lenin. Where is its conservative counterpart?

Republicans are stupid and inept. How horrible it is that the labor of turning back the left rests on their scrawny, bent shoulders.

Do pubbies have no leadership at all? Is there no one to organize rallies, get the word out, raise funds for pamphleteering, organize volunteers, provoke a hostile press into giving them coverage, and above all, put forward conservative candidates?

"As stupid and incompetent as the pubbies are, at least they don’t gallop toward destruction at the breakneck pace of the demonrats."

You're right. The 'Rats are driving us over the edge of the cliff at 120 mph, while the smug and sanctimonious Pubbies, Labrador included, are taking us there at only 100 mph. Had McInsane been elected, our Republic would still be headed to hell, it would just be slightly cooler right now.

"Was there any effort during the primaries to nominate a write-in candidate?"

Nope, it was all Ward vs. Labrador. This is what we get for being so myopic. Or maybe this is what the Pubbies get for having those stupid open primaries! The Idaho GOP is truly the embodiment of "The Stupid Party" for allowing the CommieLib 'Rats to vote in its primaries.

Scouts Out! Cavalry Ho!

I have noticed a lot of Muslim types (Somalis, I believe) walking around the Franklin/Curtis and Emerald/Curtis area (my route to work). Let’s hope they are the assimilating type, in which case I don’t give a damn what color their skin is or what religion they follow. It is the crazy commie Californians and the “no way am I ever going to learn English” Mexicans that won’t assimilate that drive me batty. You would think that these people would feel so unwelcome in Idaho that they would leave, but they just keep coming...

“!You would think that these people would feel so unwelcome in Idaho that they would leave”

Most people are too fearful to make them feel unwelcome.

Baron Bodissey: “Political correctness is communist propaganda writ small. In my study of communist societies, I came to the conclusion that the purpose of communist propaganda was not to persuade or convince, nor to inform, but to humiliate; and therefore, the less it corresponded to reality the better. When people are forced to remain silent when they are being told the most obvious lies, or even worse when they are forced to repeat the lies themselves, they lose once and for all their sense of probity. To assent to obvious lies is to co-operate with evil, and in some small way to become evil oneself. One’s standing to resist anything is thus eroded, and even destroyed. A society of emasculated liars is easy to control. I think if you examine political correctness, it has the same effect and is intended to. (Political Correctness - The Revenge of Marxism, Gates of Vienna)”

Totally agree. Been saying this for many years. Wrongthinking will be punished!
