These exercises, as well as the Chinese exercise also going on now, are designed to train to attack US/South Korean forces in the region (Given reason is to repulse a US attack on the Vladivostok area and the NorthEastern region of China. The Chinese and Russians have a massive joint exercise scheduled next year as well.
