Suspected child abductor kills himself
kmoxnews@kmox.com
ST. LOUIS (KMOX) -- St. Louis County Police confirm for KMOX News that the person of interest in the Alisa Maier child abduction case shot and killed himself as he was approached by police in Lincoln County on Highway D. A police spokesman tells KMOX that they have also located a car matching the description of the suspect's vehicle but police are stopping short of calling him the abductor
The 4-year old Louisiana, Mo. girl was found wandering around a parking lot of a car wash in Old Town Fenton last night, after someone had snatched her from her front lawn some 70 miles away the night before.
After being examined at Children's Hospital, Alisa was released today to her parents. Authorities are not commenting on whether she was sexually assaulted. Police are confirming that her hair was cut during her ordeal.
Not a bad idea. For once, in a case like this, I had the tinniest bit of Christian sympathy since, if it is true, he did not molest her and released her as well. Maybe he did not want to get caught, but maybe he had an attack of conscious as well.
He just got out of jail last month for a drug offense and he is a registered sex offender! I’m not sure he knows what a conscience is!
***It is great to hear she is unharmed.
As for the person of interest, may God forgive him.***
I’m so glad to see someone else feels the same way I do. For all we know, the man might have been a mental case.
How were they monitoring him? After all the girl was missing for a few days.
I’ll admit I don;t know the entire story...his or the incident. I know it;s a tad naive as well. I just know I wish the kid was returned alive more often.
sodomy on a ten yr old is why he is a registered sex offender
There was a dark colored vehicle there at this residence. There was a dark colored passenger car. Paul Sterling Smith convicted sex offender. NG says, he got a reduced sentence. Wandering the streets and cruising Alisa’s neighborhood. His description amazingly accurate. Alisa wandering around alone, her hair cut and her clothes changed.
Dude, what’s your point? I know all of that. Do you think I’m defending him???
Paul Sterling Smith, the Man Suspected in the Kidnapping Case of Alisa Maier Has Apparently Committed Suicide
Police are confirming that the man they suspect kidnapped four-year-old Alisa Maier from in front of her house on Monday evening has most likely committed suicide in Lincoln County Missouri.
Police approached a man sitting in a vehicle registered to Paul Sterling Smith, who also goes by Paul Steven Smith, and when they did so the man inside the car shot and killed himself. Police have not been able to confirm that the man inside was Smith at this time.
The police were tipped off when someone called them saying a man in that car had purchased clothing for a child from their store and that is when they followed up on the lead.
And already has a gun! Yea lets pass some more gun laws for the law abiding citizens!
Well said.

Yet.
I prayed last night that the little girl would be found alive, but I have to admit I didn’t believe it would happen. Glory to God.
And as for the perp ... perhaps he will find forgiveness and healing in the next life. Hope so.
Holy cats!!! Very scary! Reminds me of what happened a few years ago ... I came home from work and found our street SWARMING with cops and TV vans. Turned out the cops had finally found someone they dubbed “The Bathtub Murderer.” On our street!!!!!!!!!!! Yikes.
Nancy Grace Wed night had no confirmation from LE that he was dead, although the streaming tickers claimed he was.
Fox News does not confirm he is dead - nor does it name him.,

The man’s name was not released. By late Wednesday, he was still alive but in critical condition, Missouri State Highway Patrol spokesman Al Nothum said.
