Maybe BP is trying to control costs by having people not go to over charging state hospitals. Just a thought.
Oil rig workers have coexisted with the stuff that comes out of the ground (except the hydrogen sulfide) for years.

Does CNN realize whose mess kit they’re about to take a crap in? (The guy who’s been in charge since ‘day one’!)
Yes, as other have said. BP has paid to set up field medical facilities with people trained in oil spill cleanup illnesses and injuries.
So it is no conspiracy to have the injured and sick go to these facilities rather than some public facility where BP doesn’t have medical coverage.
It’s also perfectly normal for nosy reporters to be told to stay 60 feet from operating cleanup vehicles, so they don’t cause accidents.
sounds pretty slimy...
Wouldn’t trust anything by Sanjay Gupta — Obama was going to make him US Surgeon General than Gupta declined supposedly due to family commitments. No matter his medical qualifications, he obviously is an Obama man and anti-corporations/business with his statement implying BP is trying to hide something.
Regarding the crux of the story, it makes more sense for workers to go to a facility which has all the tools and equipment to diagnose and treat oil spill-related symptoms than to any number of other facilities. I don’t see anything sinister here.
Having said that, fumes from thick oil can cause headaches, dizziness, and nausea. Most symptoms can be prevented with appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) especially air purifying respirators which remove organic fumes. Usually symptoms disappear if the worker is removed to a fresh air environment for several hours or maybe a day.
The hospitals are not qualified to treat them, so why go there? BP’s clinics are staffed with the best experts.
.
BP has a long history of compassion for the sick—like the Locerbie bomber. When I see all the boohooing for BP in Republican circles, I think of that. Sometimes big corporations really are run by greedy slimebags, such as in this case.
Once again, CNN is catching up.
I heard about this last week. It was part of BP’s assurance that they would take care of the bills.
It is only logical that they would want to ensure they are not getting ripped off.
It may also be that this allows them control over the exposure of the ‘facts’ to the public. Once again, that is how most corporations and politicians work together to deal with a large scale situation.
So far, I see nothing that BP has been doing SINCE the spill, that does not seem logical nor necessary.
Most of the time issues such as the subject of this article are just the MEDIA and GOVERNMENT trying to divert you from noticing that they enabled this whole mess, and don’t have the leadership or skills to deal with it in a timely fashion.
