(NaturalNews) Normally I would open this article by explaining this is the story the mainstream media won't dare report. Except in this case, they are reporting it. It's right on CNN, on the Anderson Cooper "360" report.
What happened is that Lance Rosenfield, a photographer working for ProPublica (http://www.propublica.org), was standing on a public road, taking photos of a BP refinery in full public view. After taking his photos, he was tailed by local law enforcement officials to a gas station, where they demanded to look at the photos he had just taken. A private BP security goon then showed up at the scene, and an official from the Department of Homeland Security soon arrived and began to intimidate Lance.
With his wits about him (and some basic knowledge of the Bill of Rights), Lance at first refused to show his photographs to local law enforcement. They threatened to detain him (probably under the Patriot Act) if he didn't, so he gave in and let them see the photos. Later, when private BP security personnel asked for Lance's personal information, he refused to give it to them. So -- get this -- the police turned over his private information to the BP security goon!

If I owned a refinery I’d be very careful who I let sniff around the place. Same with a refined hydrocarbons tank farm.
The Obama Administration and BP have had an incestuous relationship for some time, public statements to the contrary notwithstanding.
Sent to Fox and Glenn Beck.
Remember who’s been calling the shots-since “day one”.
BTTT
No sympathy for Lance from me! Taking pictures of an oil refinery in these days and times should get you noticed. Apparently the police and guards were on their toes and on to this guy quickly. Kudos to the authorities.
I completely disagree with you on this one ...
I can understand the freedom concerns here. I can also understand being nervous about someone taking pictures in this day of terrorism.
If you do send, do it on a friday, all weekend they will run it on their reruns, sheesh, are they going down hill? Hope not, that is the station I watch but kinda dissapointed in them on this rerun matter.
You wouldn’t be if Lance turned out to be Achemed.
Want to see the Media, OTOH. . .get more than ticked here; want them outraged beyond measure. But, this may be too much to expect from a Media that is played like an abused wife. . .who cannot give up their man.
Abused wife. . .useful idiots. . .a miserable bliss of sorts for these people.
They’re riled up, but they’re not riled up at Obama. These stories are about big, bad BP censoring the media. I do not see them as ‘gotcha’ moments for Obama, simply because BP and Obama are not being related in the MSM.
And besides, this is war time. Now, our enemies wouldn’t take advantage of this spill would they? /s It’s a Catch 22 kind of situation.
What law was broken?
So, sure . ..'noticed'; and can understand, perhaps the lack of 'sympathy' given MSM issues; but activity certainly not deserving of threats, intimidation and actually violating the rights of this man. . .
Am wondering 'why' you would think this is okay?
“The story reveals that the BP refinery being photographed by Lance Rosenfield illegally
released 538,000 pounds of toxic chemicals including “17,000 pounds of benzene, a known carcinogen;
37,000 pounds of nitrogen oxides, which contribute to respiratory problems;
and 186,000 pounds of carbon monoxide.”
AND, how is that compared to all the other refineries???
