Isn’t this approaching the “point of no return”?

For November yes. The dems don't have enough time to pull out of the nose dive before people start paying attention before the elections. Illinois has stopped paying its bills and California and New York are not far behind. Even the slavishly friendly press can't hide the damage any more.

For a second term there is still time, but i doubt Obama will be able to make use of it. Obama would need a different personality type to pull it off. In the example above Reagen and Clinton were able to pull out a second term after a mid term disaster. But both were self effacing and were able to draw on the good will of the American people to force a hostile congress to support their agendas. Both also backed off their chosen ideology and met congress half way (Reagen didn't cut the budget as he had promised and Clinton ended welfare as we knew it). Obama's professorial lecturing can't connect with the majority of Americans. And his fanatical socialist ideology won't let him bend.

Most importantly Obamas jobs to date have not prepared him to deal with a hostile legislature. In Chicago there are no Republicans. In the Illinois Senate he was part of Dem party with such large majorities that they didn't even need to fear vetoes. His presidency so far had the largest one party majorities in Obama's entire lifespan. Obama has never had to deal with an opposing party that actually had power. He has never had to deal, or compromise. I do not see him as being the type to acquire that skill quickly enough to save him in 2012.

Good point, Gonzo. Obama will most likely pout and throw fits like the child that he is if Republicans take the House. He will blame the voters when he can’t get things done. It will not be presidential.

I think we are fortunate in that our first truly damaging president is also one who is so totally out of touch with mainstream America.

Imagine if you dare a president with Obama's ideology, but Reagan's or Clinton's communication skills. About the closest we ever came to such a situation was averted when Dr. Weiss gunned down Huey Long.

Good points about Obama’s past political experience. We are seeing his stumbling methods of dealing with opposition in several ways. There are the regulatory takeovers, the unread bills shoved through Congress, the recess appointments, the two-question “press conferences”, the closed “townhall meetings”, the faux debates like the healthcare debate, and the show trial hearings where industry “criminals” were frogmarched in front of the cameras, the executive orders, and his proxy thugs threatening recalcitrant members of his own party. He definitely doesn’t know how to deal with anyone who disagrees with him.
