GALLUP : Obama Job Approval Rating Down to 38% Among Independents
Gallup ^ | 07/07/2010 | Jeffrey Jones

Overall job ratings for the president continue to be below majority level.

PRINCETON, NJ -- Thirty-eight percent of independents approve of the job Barack Obama is doing as president, the first time independent approval of Obama has dropped below 40% in a Gallup Daily tracking weekly aggregate. Meanwhile, Obama maintains the support of 81% of Democrats, and his job approval among Republicans remains low, at 12%.

These data are based on Gallup Daily tracking interviews conducted the week of June 28-July 4.

Over the past year, Obama has lost support among all party groups, though the decline has been steeper among independents than among Republicans or Democrats. Today's 38% approval rating among independents is 18 percentage points lower than the 56% found July 6-12, 2009. During the same period, his support has fallen nine points among Democrats (from 90% to 81%) and eight points among Republicans (from 20% to 12%).

Overall, 46% of Americans approve of the job Obama is doing as president in the June 28-July 4 aggregate, one point above his lowest weekly average. Obama's average weekly job approval rating has not been above 50% since Feb. 8-14, though it reached the 50% mark as recently as May 3-9.

I’m a little confused when they refer to independents. It would seem to me they are referring to people who are actually registered as “unaffiliated” (not registered with any party) rather than those registered with the independent party.

Am I missing something?

True enough. The real difference lies in the backstage story. Reagan (and Volker) had put in the necessary and right corrections. In time they took effect and the next ten years were great. Obama has done the wrong things, in terms of the nation's interest, and has no intention of correcting his errors.

Their respective midterm approval ratings are like two vehicles passing in opposite directions who find themselves in the same spot as they cross.

We already knew that a majority of DimocRATS (81% currently) have brain damage. What’s difficult for me to understand is who are the 12% of Republicans who suffer from severe brain damage?????

Isn’t this approaching the “point of no return”?

Unfortunately, not with the LSM around to perform CPR.

They would love nothing more than to turn Captain Kickass into the Comeback Kid.

It could mean that 38 percent of Independents can’t even spell “independent”.

I am more perplexed by the 12% approval from Republicans. I can only concluded at least 12% of Registered Republicans are actually embedded Democrats.

And, of course, these “indies” all still like their Democrat Congresscritters.

what is also missing from the headline is WHY Independents are falling out of love with him - because he isn’t showing more leadership in the Gulf or about creating jobs.

The Independents want him to be more of an FDR - passing WPA-like programs, seizing control of the spill from BP, kicking up tax rates on the top 1%, stimulus spending even if it drives up the deficit, quitting two costly wars.. In other words, they want him to be more *liberal*. They have the same unhappiness that Democrats do.

In other words - they may not like Obama as much, but they sure don’t want the GOP answers to the problems either. And REAL Conservative approaches? The only part of them that they like is the idea of cutting taxes *for their own income levels*.

So this is good news for Conservatives how, exactly? Just because Obama isn’t as popular as he used to be?

The magic number of 40% has been crossed. Jimmy Carter bumped it and went down in flames. Obama is self-incinerating even now, piling on more of the same that got him there, apparently because he’s either a slow learner or a true believer (not that those are mutually exclusive, he’s probably both).

A November massacre can’t come too soon.

"if the media actually did their job and stop acting like a cult or groupies his numbers would be more down "

That is exactly it, even with his totally subjugated media whores, his numbers are plummeting.

The 12% Republican “favor” Obama numbers:

10% - Blatantly oversampled Democrats who will swear that they accidentally marked “Republican” because they couldn’t spot “Pat Buchanan” on their form.

1% - Tinfoil hat types who gave bizarre answers to the poll intentionally.

~.99% - Republicans who marked the wrong oval/pressed the wrong button and intended to mark “disapprove.”

~.01% - Lindsey Graham.

>> If you support Obama and yet call yourself a Republican

Colin Powell is the poster child for this sort.

They cross party lines to vote on the basis of skin color.

There’s a simple term for it... begins with an “r”, I think.

The biggest difference between Clinton and Obama is that Clinton doesn’t hate this country and everything it stands for imho. Obama does hate this country and it shows.

I think you are confusing a growing number of independents’ reasons for disapproving of Obama with why some liberals and leftists are pissed at him. I believe most independents are waking up to Obama’s marxist, socialist and racist ways and the fact that he is frankly either incompetent or evil or both.
