US and Japanese naval forces have successfully completed the Undersea Warfare Exercise (USWEX) in the western Pacific Ocean.
The American nuclear-powered super carrier, USS George Washington (CVN 73) participated in the exercise held from June 21 to 25.
The exercise was conducted by elements from Commander, Battle Force 7th Fleet (CTF 70), Commander, Patrol & Reconnaissance Force, 7th Fleet (CTF 72), Commander, Submarine Force, 7th Fleet (CTF 74), Carrier Air Wing (CVW) 5, Destroyer Squadron (DESRON) 15 and components from the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force (JMSDF).
"This year during USWEX we continued to strengthen interoperability between the US Navy and the JMSDF and trained against tactics, techniques and procedures to develop new concepts in anti-submarine warfare (ASW)," Lt. Justin Santos, a surface operations officer for DESRON 15, said in a US Navy news release.
The exercise was focused on the training and coordination of anti-submarine warfare (ASW) efforts between the maritime partners.

Should have included South Korea.

Its coming
:)
Gojira?
In english please.
LOL
No carrier fleet can take out the mighty lizard! He can only be “pissed off” ... not a good idea.
Probably one of the most boring exercises if you’re in CIC. You just want to put your head on the DRT and snooze.
And North Korea. ;-)
The Big Guy himself. A couple of years ago Fraternal Mineral got me the original Japanese version. A far, far superior movie to the US version, and a good movie altogether. The movie was made in 54, and in one scene people are at home watching the rampage on their Sharp television. So by 54 the Japanese economy had recovered enough for a domestic television manufacture as well broadcasting.
I love Gojira/Godzilla. Always have. I even enjoyed the recent U.S. film, though it’s toward the bottom of my list.
Better that than Gamera!
So, are we agreed it’s Gojira that’s the threat in the Pacific?
Gamera is a friend to little Japanese schoolboys. Godzilla is not.

Click on pic for past Navair pings.
Post or FReepmail me if you wish to be enlisted in or discharged from the Navair Pinglist.
The only requirement for inclusion in the Navair Pinglist is an interest in Naval Aviation.
This is a medium to low volume pinglist.
Ping for the big, “G.”
Have you two seen the newer ‘90s Gamera trilogy? THOSE were very well done, IMHO.
Some interesting studies out there on the Japanese psyche after the war and the archetype of Godzilla.
Well yes but there was more to it than that.
