Well, to be honest Bourbon is something I enjoy. I mean if it's okay with you. But, really this was a thread about cigarette taxes; and I don't smoke cigarettes at all. I just object to liberal Don't tax me. Tax that guy behind the tree. types. That's why, lady.

I find misspelling disgusting and low class, but I'll fight to my last breath to allow the poorly educated to participate in online discussions in a free America.

Well, alright. Don't getcha shorts in a bunch.

Liquor is responsible for as much or more death and misery than cigarettes. Just wondered why they pick on cigs and not booze. (No, I don't drink or smoke)

I hate the Indian casinos. They don’t get a dime from me.

We use 'em to our advantage, not being gamblers...there's one small local casino thats restaurant offers unbeatable deals. On Mondays and Thursdays, for example, there is a full brekkies buffet that costs us $4.50 apiece, and the larger lunchies one is $8.50.....beverages included, no sales tax, and on the breakfast "steak buffet" they wrap the steak for take home.

We walk in, get fed - with take home steaks - for minimal bucks, and the waitress gets a fifty percent tip due to our 'guilt' over such deals.

.......Take advantage when you can.....we do!

Thank you.

I find Liberals disgusting and low class, but I'll fight to my last breath to allow adults to keep spewing their Socialist crap.

I think that much of this country is built on mutual respect. Respect for your neighbor's property and privacy. Respect for each other's rights. Respect for an adult's ability to take care of themselves and make the decisions that they believe are in *their* own best interest.

I think that that's the reason I hate Liberals so much. They think that I can't decide what to eat, smoke or how much water should be in my own toilet. They don't believe that I have enough sense to neuter my own animal or the ability to properly educate my own child. They have no respect of other human beings.

Some might say the same of people who are obese.....or too much overweight. They now create more costs in medical insurances than smokers....and so because they can’t stop putting twinkies in their mouth shall we tax all the goodie foods....soda, chocolate, pies, cookies, chips, candy etc.

Furthermore....some of them smell, appear disgusting to some, and might also be considered low class.

Yes, but I'm convinced that "obese" has been dumbed down to include a lot more people over the past decade. I had my body mass index measured at a former job and they had me borderline "obese" - I'm tall and not fat. The criteria they use are a joke.

Perhaps.... but one hardly needs a body mass index to see that people are overweight in the numbers that we see out there. It's rather obvious. Just go to a mall and watch the people come and go...no index needed. Or visit a restaurant and observe. It's just pretty apparent.

As for you..well you can be the best judge of that. But most people who have weight issues do know they have them for a reason.

I have a friend who recognizes her food “addiction”...she eats like smokers smoke. If she feels good she treats herself...if she feels bad...she comforts herself with food...any emotion, event or happening will always include food. Smokers often times do likewise.

The point is people use various vices to cope with life or celebrate life....and frankly the gov. will go after that which they can get the bucks from....unless of course it's their own pockets.

Which is my point as well, though it isn't recognized by those poster who insist on fixating on my opinion that tobacco use is distasteful. Big deal - point is that regardless of a vice someone may have, the government has NO business getting involved in controlling it, ever!

Happy?

Liquor is responsible for as much or more death and misery than cigarettes.

I understand from you FR page that you are young and may be fighting the indoctrination you are receiving, but you need to understand that these awful things, booze and cigarettes, also have a plus side. People enjoy them.

I say this, as I said as someone who doesn't smoke cigarettes unless you count about ten of them more than 40 years ago. But also I say this as someone whose father died probably prematurely from his smoking habit at age 73. He liked his cigarettes. They gave him pleasure. I could tell they gave him pleasure.

The same is true for alcohol. Sure, there are people who abuse their FREEDOM and do damage to themselves and to others because they abuse their FREEDOM. But if you come up to Saratoga this summer I can show you a single bar where up to 2500 people are drinking and having a good time. (Well, maybe they're not all drinking, but most of them are.) If you wouldn't enjoy it, that's okay, but it's not a reason to tax it.

Taxes are/were supposed to be about raising revenue; NOT about controlling behavior. Every tax that seeks to control a person's behavior restricts his FREEDOM. And FREEDOM is something that quite a few of us here at FR cherish.

Ok. I see your point of course.
But why are liquor drinkers more free than smokers?

Actually there are alcohol taxes.

The reason that cigarette taxes cost cigarette smoking more than alcohol taxes cost drinkers has to do with how successful the do-gooders have been lately at isolating and separating cigarette smokers. Now they are trying to do the same thing with salt, sugar (or corn syrup), butter, beef (or maybe all meats) in sort of the same manner that a lion seeks out a weak antelope.

I am opposed to all of these taxes. When some are more free than others, we have an Animal Farm.
