Interesting way to look at it. I’m pretty sure, though, that we would all apply different factors to calculate and therefore have different measures of what amount of slavery we would endure. I think that- borrowing from someone smarter than myself - we are free when we decide to be.
If a law is unjust and unreasonable I can choose to ignore it or I can attack it - Both are ways of revolting against it IMHO. We have to be a nation of just laws. I would not have turned in a runaway slave. I would not turn in someone who exercised free speech just because a government official wanted me to. I will not purchase health insurance simply because my government mandates that I do.
Not really sure I’m answering your very valid question. Bottom line - the amount of freedom I’m willing to give up before reacting will be different than yours.

I am at the point I will(if I ever get on one) hang any jury dealing in a tax case.
