I had to work for two years in your state and discovered & "proofed" that what is taken as an accent in Massachusetts is really slang or a version of ebonics. The natives can speak english if pressed just right.

Take any Southie, die hard north bay or guy from "woosta" and hand them something to read that they could not have done so before and don't let them proof read in advance. Have them read it out loud right then and they will use every letter in the alphabet.

I discovered this while attending church up there.
