Will the vaccinated infect the unvaccinated? That is the question with Whooping cough

PhotobucketA major media campaign is in force for adults to get the Pertussis vaccination. The commercial just pulls at your heart strings to make you just jump up and want to get vaccinated today. Isn't that what commercials are meant to do? It is like all the commercials for toys around Christmas time. They want mom and dad to go out and buy their toy for little Johnny or Janie.

Look at the advertizing campaign that Merck put out for Gardasil. That was the most successful campaign I have ever seen. You have millions of girls and young women going out and getting the HPV vaccinations. What they do not tell you is that you have a potentially high risk of having a "New Medical Condition" after vaccination. Interesting how they left that fact out of the commercials. I wonder why. NOT

Before I continue I want to tell you about a fact that is known by the CDC, etc. That is called vaccine shedding. (13, 14) This is the transmission of the virus from a vaccinated person to an unvaccinated person. The CDC is referencing "live influenza viruses." Here is the excerpt: Because LAIV (live, attenuated influenza vaccine) contains live influenza viruses, a potential exists for transmission of these viruses from vaccinees to other persons. Vaccinated immunocompetent children can shed vaccine viruses for <3 weeks. (10)

I want you to understand that this is true for vaccines (15, 16, 17, 18) including the Whooping Cough. What you could have happen is that all these parents and child care workers are going to get the vaccine and then take care of children. They will change their dirty diapers and be in close contact with the children that they are trying to protect. When in essence, they are passing the disease to the young children and infants in their care for approximately 3 weeks. (10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15) This could mean that when a mother kisses, hugs and touches her beautiful baby she could be passing the virus. The same goes for the day care givers of these children. The vaccinated have the potential to infect the unvaccinated child. This could cause the next epidemic of disease like what happened with the small pox epidemic.

What kind of vaccine is it?
DTaP and Tdap vaccines are "inactivated" vaccines. Inactivated vaccines do not contain live bacteria or virus and cannot reproduce, which is why multiple doses are needed to produce immunity.

Not an issue.

Interesting, but irrelevant. The only relevant issue is whether more people contract the disease if everyone gets vaccinated or not.

It’s a statistical question, nothing more.

If I showed you had a statistical chance of 1 in 10,000 of contracting polio if you took the vaccine, you might think that is terrible.

But if I then point out that without the vaccine your odds are 1 in 50, it should change your point of view.

I actually heard a so called health care expert insist that there is something called ‘herd immunity’ meaning that if most of a group are inoculated then all are inoculated.

It made no sense at all but then nothing coming from any experts makes sense. Not just about inoculations, but about everything coming from ‘experts’.

From the website of Boston Children's Hospital: The injected vaccine is made from dead virus and the "misted" type is made from live virus. The live virus is "attenuated" meaning it produces immunity but does not produce the disease. The site goes on to say that this "attenuated" virus produces a mild infection.

So. . .if it produces an infection, however mild, how can they say it does not produce the disease?

Sounds to me like the injected vaccine is the way to go.

At any rate, below is the site address. Sorry, don't know how to paste as a hyperlink.

That would be virtually impossible to determine.

Herd immunity means that if you reach a certain threshold of immune individuals in a community, say 90%, those who are susceptible to infection get some protection because it is so hard for an infection to spread. Too many links in the chain are broken for an epidemic to start. It doesn’t mean an individual who is not immune can’t get sick occasionally.

What a load of cr*p. The article cited in the post says the reason for increasing pertussis infections is lack of vaccination.

The rate of pertussis peaked in the 1930s, with 265,269 cases and 7518 deaths reported in the United States. This rate decreased to a low in 1976, when 1010 cases and 4 deaths occurred because of vaccines.

It is these anti-vaccination people who are killing others, not vaccinated healthcare workers who are immune to the disease. If all adults would get their TDAP boosters, the disease would be back to 1976 levels.

Pertussis vaccines do not confer lifetime immunity. It is the unvaccinated parents and caregivers that are the problem.

‘herd immunity’

Herd immunity is a scientific fact. You just misunderstood the concept. If you are not immune, but everyone around you is, then you cannot contract the disease because you will not be exposed to it. You don't become immune.

So herd immunity means an epidemic is unlikely?

That makes sense. The expert was not clear on that fact but it does sound logical.

Due to all the adverse reactions to infant immunizations, the P part of the DPT vaccine was eliminated. I have one of those children. Even when the booster was given when she was in high school the P was not part of the booster shot.

I suspect the illegals are bringing communicable diseases into the US. A friend who works in a NJ public school told me that they simply line up all the new students and inoculate them at the beginning of school.

I’m surprised that daycare workers aren’t required to be vaccinated as a part of the licensing process.

You will not be exposed to a disease only if you remain within that group. Given the constant return to ‘their’ country by the ‘immigrants’ how likely is it that they will remain within their group of the immunized.

Highly unlikely, IMHO.

Your comment just makes me sad for the state of education in America. As conservatives, we should be striving for knowledge so we can make informed decissions, not reacting to feelings we have for the speaker.

IOW, if I don’t come to the same conclusion as yours then I’m to be pitied.

Okay then. Given the so called knowledge is disseminated via the gummint, I’m sorry for YOU.

Have we all of a sudden moved from a modern civilization, where major infections and diseases can be easily controlled to some backwater hell hole in Africa?

For God’s sake, this invasion of idiot aliens is going to kill us. Its not about jobs or culture. Its about keeping our population safe.

And for those of you who think vaccines are bad, go talk to someone who lived in an iron lung, or visit these kids with whooping cough.

Why bother eradicating these killers if you simply think “it won’t happen to me.”

Fools.

I don't pity you, I am sad that a good rounded curriculum is being withheld from the masses during basic grade 1-12 education. Unfortunately, I think that it is intentional.

I should have worded my reply in a manner that did not infer the problem is with you. I apologize for any offense.

There is a mini-epidemic of pertussis out there.

I got it last year. It had been about 9 years since my last tetanus shot - before they put the pertussis vaccine into the adult tetanus shot - and I got exposed somehow.

The good news is that whooping cough is not dangerous in adults. You cough til you puke, but you aren't likely to die.

The bad news is that I probably exposed a lot of people to the virus before it was diagnosed. In adults it just looks like a bad cold followed by a lingering cough . . . so by the time you eliminate the other possibilities and get the titer done, it's been 6 weeks or so.

More good news: the folks I work with have their kids vaccinated, and keep their own vaccines up to date. So nobody caught it from me (that we know of). My dear husband had his tetanus booster just 2 years ago, and he did not cough the first cough.

Thank goodness for herd immunity, or I could have made a lot of people sick. I have no idea who made me sick!
