These confirmation hearings merely reflect what a political institution the USSC has become. Nobody pretends they just interpret the law anymore - this is about raw political power. Jurisprudence has become nothing but sohpistry. And there are really no checks on them.
We live in a time were a majority of our representatives believe liberty is a carrot, regulation is a stick and they have every power to bind our ankles at will.
