From what I have seen on tv, time with a prostitute in Roman Times cost the same as a loaf of bread.
We have the EXACT opposite of that arrangement now in western culture. Mommy rules and daddy drools. And with it an explosion of boys acting like girls, children medicated with all sorts of mood enhancing drugs; the educational system dumbed down, the advent of “parenting by guilt” and “adult spousal status” given to children.
OH and the ever popular toddler in an adult’s body (non-self supporting “children” well into their twenties and thirties)

I was most fortunate to be able to visit Pompeii on several occasions. It is such a fascinating place.
