A Media Welfare State?

We need a WPA for the press, Robert McChesney and John Nichols insist.

28 June 2010

The Death and Life of American Journalism: The Media Revolution that Will Begin the World Again, by Robert W. McChesney and John Nichols (Nation Books, 352 pp., $26.95)

Imagine a world of “post-corporate” newsrooms, where the state serves as the primary benefactor of the Fourth Estate. Billions flow from bureaucracies to media entities and individual journalists in the name of sustaining a “free press.” And this new media welfare state is funded by steep taxes on our mobile phones, broadband connections, and digital gadgets.

Sound Orwellian? Well, it’s the blueprint for a press takeover drawn up by Robert W. McChesney and John Nichols in their new book, The Death and Life of American Journalism. McChesney, the prolific neo-Marxist media scholar who teaches at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, and Nichols, a journalist with The Nation, aren’t shy about their intentions. Along with Free Press, the absurdly misnamed regulatory activist group they co-founded, McChesney and Nichols outline a self-described “radical” agenda for what they hope will become a media “revolution.” And, shockingly, some folks in the Obama administration are listening.

These idiots obviously don't realize that in the post-Western Amerika they are building, the stupid slave-citizens won't be even vauguely interested in reading anything.

Dope, booze, parties, and siring 15 future voters is the politcally correct agenda.

A lot of commercials on various radio shows are already paid for by FedGov. (HUD, Census, Food Stamps, etc.) Might be the camel’s nose under the tent for this kind of stuff.

how will we know the difference? (if the FEDS take over the media?)

The media is nothing but a lapdog now, just repeating what the GUBERNMENT tells them to say. The CONSTITUTION and FREE SPEACH were interlocked to ensure the US Government's lies were put on the font page. Now we have a media that wouldn't know the truth if it his them up in the side of the head.

Even if YOU are an American citizen who doesn't believe what the Government controlled media tells you, you are influenced (Controlled by the media) such that you will be quiet even when you know things aren't right.

They call you a BIRTHER if you ask about a simple birth certificate.

They call you a CONSPIRACY THEORIST even after it has been proven there was a conspiracy to kill Kennedy (It was LBJ and Hoover behind the coup).

Etc.

We may not, but their jobs will be much more secure.

>If the feds officially take over the media, how will we know the difference?<

Ask yourself if the material you are viewing is trying to influence you into relaxing or surrendering your personal freedoms. If the answer is yes then you positively no the answer.

If you don’t make your own decisions, the government will do it for you.
