Arizona Sen. John McCain’s re-election campaign has gained an important endorsement from an influential conservative publication, National Review.
“This magazine has not always agreed with Sen. John McCain’s judgments,” the endorsement on National Review’s website notes. “But there are three considerations that militate against dumping McCain for his primary challenger, former congressman J.D. Hayworth.”
The first is that McCain has consistently voted on the conservative side on important issues — he has never supported a broad-based tax hike, voted for every conservative Supreme Court nominee, and has a long pro-life record.
Second, McCain has unmatched credibility on national security and demonstrated his leadership by encouraging the “surge” of American forces in Iraq.
Third, McCain has a better record than Hayworth on controlling federal spending. Hayworth in fact appeared in infomercials telling people how to get “free money” from the government, according to National Review, which concludes:

My tag line and I think McCain deserves to lose, but it’s not going to happen against Hayworth.
I sometimes wonder what % of McCain’s support is voters who are so repulsed by the foaming-mouth insanity of the McCain-haters that they simply are pushed into his open waiting arms.
As a teenager, I watched Firing Line religiously every month. Buckley is the reason I’m a conservative today. I found the 2 copies of National Review hidden in the back of the stack at my college bookstore. I kept on reading National Review when it was not only well written, but consequential. My favorite line from their editorial comments about the Falkland War: “World War I has inexplicably broken out again”.....

Buckley endorsed John McCain for President in the primary, gave money to his campaign - before he died.

Buckley was a member of Council of Foreign Relations and the Bildebergers, so he is NOT turning over in his grave. Fred Barnes and William Kristol work for Weekly Standard another phony conservative rag. Your best bets are the American Spectator or Newsmax.
Yep, I knew JD was from NC and a NC state grad, and a former football player. I think these snobs and elitists who've been calling JD a joke and ignorant and so forth need to examine their own bias and bigotry. JD has folksy ways and mannerisms, but he is no dummy and was a solid conservative for twelve years in the House.
Few finer things could happen this year than for JD to replace McCain. And it's not over. The final couple of months with two debates, and with JD finally answering Juan's millions in TV ads, will determine who wins. \
You ignorant little ball gargler. Who wants McCain $2.4 TRILLION Amnesty, Cap and Trade, TARP, McCain Feingold, the Reform Institute, Green jobs? Closing Gitmo? Kneepadding China? Opposing tax cuts?
And you worry about JD doing a paid infomercial ala Lesko?

I agree. And, JD is not making a serious run, so it appears he agrees with you too.
JD may be reading this, and I hope he becomes more visible. But right now, the way it is...it ain’t happening. And I really, really like JD and hope to God he wins.
