Arizona Sen. John McCains re-election campaign has gained an important endorsement from an influential conservative publication, National Review.
This magazine has not always agreed with Sen. John McCains judgments, the endorsement on National Reviews website notes. But there are three considerations that militate against dumping McCain for his primary challenger, former congressman J.D. Hayworth.
The first is that McCain has consistently voted on the conservative side on important issues he has never supported a broad-based tax hike, voted for every conservative Supreme Court nominee, and has a long pro-life record.
Second, McCain has unmatched credibility on national security and demonstrated his leadership by encouraging the surge of American forces in Iraq.
Third, McCain has a better record than Hayworth on controlling federal spending. Hayworth in fact appeared in infomercials telling people how to get free money from the government, according to National Review, which concludes:

I see the 3 copies bookstores keep and often wonder if its relevant. I guess not.
mccain is not a conservative.
Neither is Bich Flowery.
You’re right. AZ Republicans love McCain. I live in Mohave County, and we’re ultra Conservative, so I wouldn’t be surprised if JD wins here. I told him last month that if we got all the people in Mohave to vote, we could sway the election, that’s why he’s coming here a lot.

I was called for a poll tonight concerning the AZ primary.
I gave them an earful.
I am tired of McCain’s “reaching across the aisle” politics. He hs reached too far too many times.
He is so proud of NOT asking for pork for his state. Excuse me! that means AZ doesn’t get a fair share of federal monies for projects that mean jobs and improvements in AZ. Atta boy, John! Let all our tax money go to the other states.....
Our house is voting for JD. He can’t be worse and I think he will represent AZ much better than McCain.
People who claim to support JD need to stop nitpicking and joining in with these silly smears from McCain (not talking about you). The list of McCain faults and flip/flops and outright lies is long and long running, and that's what JD supporters should talk about, not this stupid government grant commercial.
But I guess everyone knows Juan agreed to two debates, on consecutive Friday and Saturday nights, I believe July 16 and 17. JD has a mountain of material to work with, and hopefully he will make good use of it in the two debates and TV ads the final several weeks of the campaign. I think the final six or so weeks have always been where JD's best shot was, since he really only has money for a few weeks of intense campaigning.
I think the real dysfunction and questionable entity are the voters of Arizona. I and others have listed the disparate group of politicians they've elected over just the past ten or so years, people at extreme opposite ends of the same issues being elected by the same people.
Nope it was an infomercial scam.
And they wonder why I canceled my subscription!
NRO has some great contributors; and NR’s endorsement carries lots of weight with me. Frankly, from what I have seen of Hayworth on TV, it is hard to see why any one would support him. He seems like a joke. He and Al Franken should get up an act.
What universe do you live in?
Do you not remember him in Congress? He was a border HAWK, unlike the worthless effin POS Amnesty Queen McCain. And he went out and helped sell the Bush tax cuts to America, unlike McCain who opposed them with vitriolic class warfare rhetoric, just like his buddy John Kerry.
Global Warming fraud, Mccain-Feingold, the Border Fence, TARP. There is virtually NOTHING that recommends Mccain over Hayworth.
Do you have any comments on the major issue differences between the two? You support amnesty, support cap and trade, oppose tax cuts, favored the bank bailouts and all the attached earnmarks, favor closing Gitmo, think all enhanced interrogation is torture. Those are just a few of the issues where JD and Juan differ.
And JD is from North Carolina and has naturally folksy and down home speech and mannerism. He's not dumb and he's not a joke. People who think so might need to examine their own prejudice and bias.
McCain has unmatched credibility on national security ?????
Tell that to the people living south of I-8.
National Review has lost all credibility with this endorsement.
I saw where the NRA endorsed Fiorina. The RINOs are digging in and the conservative establishment is running scared.
I wouldn’t be surprised if McCain secretly paid Hayworth to run against him.
I wouldn’t be surprised if McCain secretly paid Hayworth to run against him.
If you’re interested in your tagline, you should be pushing hard for JD
We are finding out, more and more, that the “conservative media” is not conservative
Supporting McCain over Hayworth is nothing more than being a liberal. A vote for McCain is a vote for Amnesty
