Arizona Sen. John McCains re-election campaign has gained an important endorsement from an influential conservative publication, National Review.
This magazine has not always agreed with Sen. John McCains judgments, the endorsement on National Reviews website notes. But there are three considerations that militate against dumping McCain for his primary challenger, former congressman J.D. Hayworth.
The first is that McCain has consistently voted on the conservative side on important issues he has never supported a broad-based tax hike, voted for every conservative Supreme Court nominee, and has a long pro-life record.
Second, McCain has unmatched credibility on national security and demonstrated his leadership by encouraging the surge of American forces in Iraq.
Third, McCain has a better record than Hayworth on controlling federal spending. Hayworth in fact appeared in infomercials telling people how to get free money from the government, according to National Review, which concludes:

Sickening
NR has obviously been drinking Kennedy liquor.
Sad. After Bill Buckley died - NR sort of fell apart. I go there once and a while but this is the last straw.
McCain is a Democrat. He gave us McCain-Feingold which gave the Democrats 2006 & 2008) TOTAL control.
Bill Buckley is rolling in his grave.
I’m working hard here in AZ, but I have to tell you, there’s not chance JD is going to beat McCain.
Well J.D. turned in to Matthew Lesko’s long lost cousin so what else can NR do?
Sure there is. All he has to do is be brave enough to expose McCain for the leftist he is. I’d start with his Reform Institute.
No mention of McCain being elderly, in near poor health, not mentally with it, a la Specter, and but a term away from being a drooling Robert Byrd?
Yeah, that’s just great.

Hypocrisy: McCain website prominently contains lengthy info on how to receive government grants
Also, JD did the ads as part of his radio show. It's no different than Rush shilling for Carbonite or something.
Yep. McCain lucked out. Instead of a true conservative for an opponent he got yet another RINO, thereby blurring the lines between candidates.
I haven’t read the magazine in YEARS and never will again I am sure.
He has...I get all his updates, all his adverising material...he’s brutal on McCain...But he’s a bit damaged himself...I just sense he can’t win. He’s coming to Bullhead this weekend, we’re having a shindig for him (JD) on Monday. I’ll let you know how it goes. Where do you live again?
I know you are telling it like it is. The people of AZ want the3 attention that McPain brings them.
Dang, and I just subscribed 3 months ago. Any thoughts on the Weekly Standard as an alternative?
He’s running ads on the Reform Institute?
Probably had Palin help them write it
