Brothers Carjacked on Craigslist By Teens

3 teens accused of using AK-47s to rob Craigslist sellers

Rule #1 for Craigslist shoppers and sellers: Never show up unarmed, or worse, unaware - especially when you’re selling expensive merchandise. Apparently Craigslist salesmen Causey and Derrick Pomare didn’t get the memo.

The two were robbed of an expensive motorcycle at gunpoint after negotiating the terms of sale on Craigslist.org. Police said the deal didn't include the AK-47 assault rifles.

The Pomare brothers were told to come to an unspecified location to drop off the motorcycle and receive the cash for their 2003 Kawasaki motorcycle. But when the potential buyers showed up they did with guns drawn.

It didn’t take much to force the brothers to the ground after three rounds were fired. Within seconds, one of the suspects was taking off eastbound on the motorcycle, while the others jetted off on foot.

By the next day, the accused motorcycle-jackers were found, the weapons obtained, and the three youngsters - 19-year-olds Brandon Brown and Ryan Herring and 16-year-old Eduardo Camacho - were arrested and charged with armed carjacking.

As for the Pomares, it’s safe to say that Causey and Derrick learned a very valuable lesson from this experience - hold a yard sale.

Someday, I foresee local police departments offering a supervised parking lot where such sales transactions can take place. It will save them money in the long run.

If you’re selling a motor vehicle privately, making the customer come to you (unless the customer is somebody you already know) is the only sensible way to do it.

Were they really AK-47s?

So long as sales taxes are collected I see the police doing this very thing.

And they will let you keep 10% of the proceeds, if it’s over a certain amount.

In most states, that is exactly what the government supplies for the turnover of kids on visitation with the non-custodial parent.

As we all recognize, non-custodial parents are killers just waiting for the opportunity. No different than these poor kids.

Because no one robs anyone in a yard.

And how do you get “carjacked on craigslist”?? Is that like getting kidnapped in the want ads.

Something like this happened to one of my tenants. There was a craigslist ad selling Iphones. The sellers offered to meet my tenant at a location...my tenant went early and saw the teen would be robbers standing outside the vehicle getting pistols ready.. Tenant left before being seen and called the law. Law questions robbers who admit they were planning on robbing my tenant. Without that admission, the cops have jack on the teens.

This happened in Woodstock, ga.

A friend of mine simply offered a small commission to a local car dealer, who let him show his car on that dealer’s lot, provided security for it and collected the payment from the seller once the sale was arranged by my friend.

In addition to the small commission, the dealer got a very attractive used car added to his used-car showcase for awhile. As it was, the internet offers still turned out better than the walk-ins at the dealer, but both my friend and the dealer were happy with the outcome.

My friend got materially more than he would have on trade-in, the dealer got a small commission without having to put up cash for another used car to showcase, and for the cost of that small commission my friend got the dealer’s experience and services in the sale.

&&&
Sounds like that would have not done them any good in this transaction. The thieves probably would have stolen stuff from the home, as well.

It pays to be careful when buying/selling car parts as well on Craig's List.

There was that guy that was looking for a used but working transmission, and got odd looking guys wearing dresses showing up at his place.

Guess he shouldn't have advertised for a 'tranny'.

A public place is always best. BTW, Craigslist has competition luring new users with free vacation travel incentives.

Haven’t you read about the home invasions that have happened from selling stuff on Craig’s List? If by making the customer come to you, you mean a place of your choosing then I agree. But I would never have a stranger come to my home to buy something.

It would be nice if headline writers were schooled in English.
