HARLOTTE, N.C. -- A secularist billboard on the Billy Graham Parkway was vandalized over the weekend.
The billboard, which was paid for by the The North Carolina Secular Association, shows an American flag and the words "One Nation, Indivisible."
Over the weekend, someone spray-painted the words under God on the billboard.
Police were notified and are reviewing surveillance video from a nearby gas station, according to the NC Secular Association.
Will Warren, a spokesman for the Charlotte Atheists and Agnostics, the local ad sponsor, said they have asked the billboard company to repair or replace the billboard this week.
"We intend to restore this sign just like we are attempting to restore the original words to the Pledge of Allegiance, Warren said.
Under God was added to the Pledge of Allegiance in 1954.
The billboard was unveiled June 21 and is located near the Boyer intersection. Besides Charlotte, the group has billboards going up in Wilmington, Asheville, Winston-Salem, Greensboro and Raleigh.
"This act shows just how needed our message is," Joseph Stewart, founder of the NC Secular Association, said in a release. "Inserting 'under God' on our billboard is like inserting it into the original Pledge in 1954: it divides us as a nation. Our sign doesn't say 'One nation under no God'; it is inclusive. It says 'One Nation Indivisible.'

Although I think this is funny, I sure hope it was just some kids messing around and not a Christian who did it.

The atheists should thank Obama. The right wing has now read Rules for Radicals and has discovered that while the doctrine is left wing, the tactics are completely neutral. The left will now be subject to the came constant mocking and harassment that they have dumped on the right for the last five decades.

Perhaps a legal Constitutionalists?
The founding fathers put it there so a monarchist(or internationalista bankster puppet master) couldn't get in our way again.

I sure hope it was just some kids messing around and not a Christian who did it.And even if it was, what is the concern? Christian symbols, even those which are privately owned, are routinely vandalized in the name of "free expression." The kinds of people who are accepting of this kind of behavior shouldn't be whining when it gets thrown right back at them.
Didn't we read something about someone needing pulling the log out of their head before they got too worked up over the branch in their eye? :)

The amusing thing is I don’t ever recall seeing any AP news articles when a billboard with a Christian message is defaced.

Why? Christians need to start protesting the destruction of the USA.
I hope it was Christian kids.

Are you sure this occurred in Harlotte? Or could it be Charlotte?
Or even Harlot?
