Holy moley, 59 posts and no one has posted the byrd man is his Saturday night best outfit.
This might be the last time I post this beautiful portrait of such a fine gentleman.

Just curious?
When a Klansman dies, do you pull the sheets over him, or do you pull the sheets off of him?
Inquiring minds want to know.

I thought that was his Sunday go to meeting clothes...

Will the sycophant obituaries conveniently forget that he was in the KKK?
To: calex59
Did they mention his long and honorable time as a Klans man? There is some poetic justice in this world. At least one, and maybe two of Byrds daughters married Muslims. This paragon of racial purity had dark colored grandchildren.
Does this answer any questions about why he was against the war in Iraq??? Maybe he didn't want a battle with his in-laws.

Reconstruction in the South was pretty harsh, worse, for example, that what was done in defeated nations after WW2.I hate to break it to you, but West Virginia is NOT a Southern State. We were created (broken off) from the mother state of Virginia over the Civil War.
We were not subjected to the ravages of reconstruction like the deep South states were....so that's not an excuse for Bob Byrd.

Expect the Governor to appoint a placeholder to the seat and then to run for Senator in the special election in November. He will be hard to beat.

Byrd, Kennedy and Murtha in the same year? Maybe God is trying to institute term limits since we won’t.
To: tobyhill
But West Virginia Republicans discovered a letter Byrd had written to the imperial wizard of the KKK three years after BYRD said he abandoned the group, in a letter, he wrote:
"The Klan is needed today as never before and I am anxious to see its rebirth here in West Virginia" and "in every state in the Union." In a 1947 letter, Byrd vowed never to fight "with a Negro by my side. Rather I should die a thousand times, and see Old Glory trampled in the dirt never to rise again, than to see this beloved land of ours become degraded by race mongrels, a throwback to the blackest specimen from the wilds."
Yes..a real American died today...but not him...a real American in the military service of this great country maybe in Afghanistan or Iraq or at some lonely outpost where we are still defending the remains of freedom around the world. Chances are he was BLACK!

Being a minority I can only think of three words to say to Mr. Byrd, but I’m not going to say it.

I think he would have to rip in death what he sewed in life — or maybe reap what he sowed ;-)
Knowing my need for mercy, I tend to pray for mercy for other reprobates.
