U.S. Asks Court to Keep Deepwater Drilling Ban

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The Obama administration on Friday asked a U.S. appeals court to stay a ruling that lifted a temporary ban on deepwater oil drilling, its latest attempt to clamp down in the wake of the Gulf of Mexico spill.

The Justice Department filed an emergency request with the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit, based in New Orleans, to put on hold a decision by Judge Martin Feldman that blocked a six-month suspension on exploratory and development drilling in U.S. waters from being enforced.

Without a stay that would keep the temporary moratorium intact, "a second deepwater spill could overwhelm response efforts and dramatically set back recovery," the Justice Department warned in its request to the appeals court.

"The district court committed legal error and abused its discretion in issuing its preliminary injunction order," it said.

What exactly are the feds doing to clean up the oil spill? I read more about them stopping the efforts to clean the oil up by others.

How Obama bypasses the law just make something up but that’s nothing new for a progressive.

"a second deepwater spill could overwhelm response efforts and dramatically set back recovery"

The first deepwater spill has overwhelmed response efforts. This administration is so incompetent, it couldn't even handle an oil change in an electric trolling motor. The real quote here should be "Stop all drilling, because we're too incompetent do deal with it."

Well, they have to be a little careful, lest their own language be used against them in a successful effort invalidate the health care reform law. The reality is, that law is likely unadministerable even by competent bureaucrats. With this crew, it’s likely to create a disaster that easily rivals the Gulf oil spill in magnitude.

I guess that they are engineering an “I told you so” spill as we speak? These types of actions add more and more weight to the speculation that this was no accident, but a chain of events set in motion that could have / did have devastating consequences (the usual “good crisis”).

Either the government is so infested with idiotic or even criminally incompetent players that they cannot rationalize and temper their reaction to such an environmental disaster, or they are playing out an agenda designed to cut off at the knees localized oil drilling and exploration.

Very dangerous times we live in - when your own government willfully works to destroy your economy and standard of living.

PS - Dodd and Frank in charge of the financial sector “reform”? You cannot make this stuff up! Our government has become an unmitigated disaster.
