Glad to have you back posting archy.
I'd love to ask what the hell kind of bullet it was pushing...
“I need to get hold of that 77gr Black Hills ammo. I dont reload, so they are a mite pricey.
“
I just looked. Had a mild heart attack! Wow! 88.7 cents a piece and that doesn’t include delivery! Reloading is relaxing and has always been good to the wallet, but with the recent limited availability and the high prices it is a necessity to shoot as much as I like to. I buy in bits and pieces and not in gross. My UPS driver once thanked me for not buying in bulk. He can see who is sending those heavy boxes.
Agree on all points friends..... key is twist rate and ammunition IMO.
FelloffatruckRus provided a few cases of M118 Special Ball when they last rolled through here.
I remember using it in service but after all these years I have been using federal match 168gr HPBT in my M1A’s an M700’s. Looking for pro / con etc on that DODIC aka M118.
SLAP round with a tungsten penetrator.
Although a while back I brewed up a batch of those Barnes Triple Shock copper solids in the same weight. Those things hit like a ton of bricks and expansion is unbelievable.
That Sierra match bullet shoots like a dream in my M1A. With handrolls they're shockingly accurate.

I got a bunch of 5.56 and .45 ACP blue tip, some .45 ACP tracers, and a big pile of .30 cal black tip. The blue tip stuff is pretty spectacular when it hits something solid.
I've got a few of the 5.56 orange tip projectile around here somewhere he threw in with one of my orders. I never got around to actually loading them.
Triple shock copper solids ....I must get some to reload. same weight ya say ?
Gonna go research em now........ back in a few !
I will get some and try tomorrow........
Midway has about the best price on ‘em in my experience. Make sure you use the Barnes data when you roll them as they’re a bit longer than the Sierra.
Black tip is AP. Blue is incendiary. Loads of fun! Yellow is a starburst type incendiary, also fun. The seagreen ‘raufus’ rounds are even more fun for spectacular impacts. They will burn up a car, so be careful!
Well it sure as hell turns heads at the range coming out of a 1911!! LOL.
All I can think of is some DI that looks like R. Lee Ermy who’s veins pop from his face and forehead just before screaming at the dirty rifle owner about his questionable heritage, ethnicity, and sexual orientation... followed by the million push ups! :-)
I will .....grateful for the guidance Marine ! I may snag a box at Ganders in Amarillo tomorrow if they have any just to toss a few down range. My TRW M1A has a Leupold 10X Mk 4 on it with mildots so will zero and run em out.
Supposed to cool down to 83 tomorrow with some rain so might get out and play if they have a couple of boxes to test. Barnes and Blackhills has em I think.
Lemme go look again ......dammit !
OK now you're scaring me. My M1A is TRW parts and the serial number is under 24xxx. I topped mine off with a 2nd Generation Springfield Rangefinder 4-14 X 56.
If I can see it, I can hit it.
Those Looeys are great scopes. My buddy has one on top of his M1A. We glass bedded the both of them a couple years back during a long 'bachelor' weekend. LOL. Then we spent some time at his Dillon loading a boat load of Sierra Match bullets in Lake City cases. The result is that we've got a pretty near set of matched rifles and more match grade ammo than I hope we're ever going to need.
For farts and grins we spent another weekend drawing circles on a map of our little corner of the world and then went out and put little flag thingies where the circles are.
Green's 200, yellow's 300, red's 400, and so on. We put on some of those Highway Department type vests when we did it and no one was the wiser. They're spread out on the likely approaches so in case the SHTF we'll be able to control the situation as it were.
Where we couldn't put flags we noted some landmarks. Some things you never forget. LOL.
Fred's has been selling OEM M-14 fiberglass stocks for ages. There may be some left.
I wet sanded it and then put 10 coats of hand rubbed tung oil on it. Fred sells some quality stuff. I can highly recommend doing business with him.

Thanks, I’ll try Fred’a. Remember my new stock needs an elevated cheek piece.
Those Brits are incredibly strong. Greatest Generation and all that.
