VICTORVILLE, Calif. -- Brawling parents interrupted a Southern California kindergarten graduation ceremony.

School officials placed Puesta del Sol Elementary in desert Victorville on lockdown Wednesday morning after a fight broke out among a group of parents.

San Bernardino County sheriff's spokeswoman Karen Hunt said witnesses told deputies several mothers were involved in a verbal argument and it got physical in a field near the ceremony. Several men then jumped into the fray and the incident turned into a brawl.

Hunt said arriving deputies didn't see any physical contact.

There were no arrests and no one reported injuries.

No children were hurt.

Sorry, but it’s not “a brawl” without physical contact.

When did we start having graduation ceremonies from kindergarten?

When they realized this might be the only chance most of them will get to a real graduation.

Victorville’s kind of a “trailer people” kind of place in the windblown high desert. Lots of weird people there.

This all started when they started kindergarten a useless year.

Before we had kids, some neighbors invited us to go watch their 5 and 6 yr olds play soccer. We figured, what the heck, and we went. We were amazed by the intensity of the parents on the side line. About half way through the game the whole thing turned into a brawl between the parents of both sides, right in the middle of the field. The ref got a broken nose.

After the melee, I said to our neighbor, “That was pretty good, what do you do next week?” We never went again.

Our kids did swimming and gymnastics. Much nicer sports.

Our kids did swimming. We had a blast as it was very family oriented.

My son ref'd 5 yr old soccer. The parents were really angry when he chose not to call off sides on both teams. The kids had no idea what side they were playing on. They just wanted to chase the butterflies!

kindergarten a useless year

Assuming that all kids should be forced to attend school until they are 18 years old, I'm not so sure it was useless for my kids - the way it was done when they went. That is, half day sessions which sort of get them used to the imprisonment they will suffer for the following dozen years.

Swimming was a great sport for our kids. Both went on to play waterpolo in highschool, and my daughter played waterpolo and did crew in college.

Truely a family oriented sport.

What? Is waterpolo a natural progression from swimming? Our kids also played WP. One even got to play in the Jr. Olympics in CA.

Man, that's a rough sport!

I would agree that WP is not a natural progression from swimming. But by the time they started they were ready, mentally and physically for the tough sport that it is.
