Boy Scouts Win Eviction Suit Against Philadelphia
Philadelphia Legal Intelligencer
Posted on 06/23/2010 4:56:26 PM PDT by Williams
"A federal jury on Wednesday declared that the city of Philadelphia had violated the First Amendment rights of the local chapter of the Boy Scouts of America by moving to evict it from its city-owned headquarters if it refused to repudiate the anti-gay policies of the scouts' national parent group.
In its verdict, the jury of six women and two men found that the city had imposed an "unconstitutional condition" on the scouts and declared that it was not "reasonable" to do so."

This reminds me of the time philly tried to sue Geno’s steaks over their “speak English” sign.

What’s up with that? I see guys in suits selling pies off of Broad street all the time.
To: Williams
One problem I see with this: it is the taxpayers who will pay the court costs of almost $1M, while the preening wankers who instituted the suit talk about how good and noble their intentions were...

Hallelujah ping! Discrimination by any other name is still discrimination — in this case, against people who hold traditional moral values.

Bow ties plus bean pies = Nation of Islam. Their founder Elijah Muhammed had been a fan of bean pies from his youth in South Carolina (I think), and made them the official dessert of the NOI.

I'd like to evict Philadelphia from the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania because it repeatedly violated the charter for decency and tolerance under which we were founded.
Let's hope they will accept the verdict and quit harassing the Boy Scouts. As I recall, some fudgepacker created a wannabe organization called "Scouting for All." How's that working out for them?

The organization BSA helped found - United Way - has cut off most local councils and has eagerly participated in a campaign to push corporate donors away from BSA.
I have never given to UW in 30 years in the corporate world and now I never will...

Let's hope they will accept the verdict and quit harassing the Boy Scouts. The Democrat establishment in that town has long made it an openly corrupt and sleazy place. Bribes solicited by building inspectors and other officials, cronyism, affirmative action for the truly unqualified, and now, a large contingent of gay power-brokers in and around City Hall. All of it stands in direct contrast to the nobility of purpose at the historic sites in the same city -- Independence Hall, the Liberty Bell, etc. It's disgusting.

The BSA is taking a huge toll on their belief system that protects the youth members.
They ought to get out there and do more fundraising, or raise the price of their popcorn.
People don't buy it because it tastes good. (even though it does) With the right marketing, they could tap into the frustration conservatives are feeling. Supporting the scouts is an investment in the coutry's future, leaders for tomorrow, traditional values, etc...

"Philadelphia's answer is to have young boys selling bean pies at the corner of Broad and Ridge. "Can't have that - might compete with the pretzel vendors - the ones who sell all day with no place to go to the bathroom or wash their hands . . .

Great news!
Does the city actually want the building for itself, or does it just want to take it away from the Scouts? That might affect whether or not there’s an appeal.
