Toronto Globe and Mail ^ | June 23, 2010

Posted on 06/23/2010 11:09:37 AM PDT by Dan Nunn

There are reports of unusual ground shaking in various parts of Ontario and Quebec, including Ottawa, Toronto and Montreal. The Toronto newsroom of The Globe and Mail shook just before 1:45 p.m. EDT. The Ottawa newsroom was evacuated at about 1:43 p.m. Various reports on Twitter suggest the earthquake was felt as far away as Ohio, New York and Michigan. A Globe reporter in Montreal said that city also shook. The earthquake shook buildings in Ottawa, where the streets are crowded with office workers who evacuated their workplaces. “We felt the building shake. It was actually it was pretty serious. It was definitely the strongest quake that I ever felt,” said Dennis Choquette, a Globe and Mail online editor based in Ottawa. The shaking lasted about 15 seconds, Mr. Choquette said. The severity of the earthquake is not yet known. It is not yet known whether there have been any reports of injuries.

The New Madrid Fault is near the place where Kentucky, Tennessee, Missouri, and Arkansas meet.

I don’t think so. The New Madrid fault is centered around the boot-heel of Missouri.

Excellent...Me too.

I’m in suburban Detroit. My daughter felt it. She was up on her bed though. I was cooking in the kitchen and did not feel it at all.:-( 5.5 is big for us!

Wow, I never knew the New Madrid Fault line ran that far. The main seismic zone is near New Madrid, MO, however.

lol, I was in an old house in LA once and the whole thing started moving lengthwise, there was another family in the front part, and as I’m looking at the garage sliding, I was thinking “Whatever is that woman doing over there?”

I've heard a lot of people who are screwing around report they felt the earth move. The cause and effect are often related. (mea culpa) I just couldn't resist.

Yes, it sure does extend farther than we thought.

No wonder the New Madrid quake was felt as far away as Boston, when it actually caused church bells to ring there in the early 1800s.

Activity on this fault, is cause for concern IMO.

My phone shows today’s quake at 5.5.

I really wish you didn’t post that picture. The center red line on that runs exactly through my property, no kidding.
