'Wal-Mart Moms' Turn on the Democrats
Weekly Standard ^ | June 22, 2010 | Fred Barnes

Posted on 06/23/2010 10:19:10 AM PDT by reaganaut1

The bad news for Democrats keeps pouring in. Now it comes from Wal-Mart moms -- women with children under 18 who shop at Wal-Mart. They tend to be Democrats and more of them than not voted for President Obama in 2008. But they’re leaning Republican this year. And despite the happy economic talk from the White House, they believe the economy is hurting their families and their situation will be just as bad a year from now.

In Washington today, Wal-Mart officials unveiled a national survey of their female customers, who pollsters said amount to 16 percent of the electorate. “These are voters who are still feeling the economic pinch,” said Leslie Dach, a Wal-Mart vice president. “They’re feeling this intensified squeeze,” and an increasing number of them are “barely able to make ends meet.”

Pollster Neil Newhouse said the moms identified themselves mostly as middle class (38 percent) and lower middle class (55 percent). They are slightly less white and more African-American and Hispanic than the country at large. And they are more moderate (46 percent) than conservative (34 percent), approve of Obama’s job performance (53 percent), and favor more government action to help people (60 percent).

But while they identify more with Democrats (43 percent) than Republicans (39 percent), they’re inclined vote for Republicans (40 percent) over Democrats (37 percent) for Congress in November. And the reason is quite simple: their finances are perilous -- and not improving.

The poll found Wal-Mart moms are forced to take numerous extra steps merely to get by. These include skipping trips to the doctor for themselves and their families and “self-medicating” with vitamins and store-bought medicines, avoiding brand name products, delaying vacations, and doing car repairs themselves.

Collectively, women provided almost all of Obama's margin over McCain -- men split about evenly. Republicans should warn that the Democrats plan a "national sales tax" (no non-geek knows what a "value-added-tax" is) that will raise the price of everything 10% or more. That will go over real well.

A more accurate headline would be; Many of the ill-informed,ignorant or plain stupid now turning against Democrats.

That IS bad news for the Rats.

Revelation 3:16 gives one of the best definitions of ‘moderate’ to be found anywhere...based on His words; Jesus Christ doesn’t seem to have a high opinion of ‘moderates’. Get off the fence, people...

You'll forgive me if I don't hold my breath...
We've all heard it before from these "slightly less white and more African-American and Hispanic than the country at large" Wal-Mart women.
They tell pollsters they are fed up and "this time I'm voting Republican" and turn right around and 95% of them still vote DemonRAT.

From the article: But it was their deep pessimism (73 percent) about the future that was the most striking finding in the survey, conducted on the Internet in late May. Half of Wal-Mart moms are concerned about falling into a lower economic class. They are anxious about joblessness.

“The pessimism is extraordinary,” Newhouse said. Their view that things won’t be better a year from now is deep-seated. “It is not going to change between now and election day,” he said, which is the worst news of all for Democrats.

Which groups do the Dems have left? Parasites on welfare, union leadership and their thugs (bit not the real workers who are compelled to knuckle under to the union thugs), gay/lesbian/transgender/transsexual/transspecies/NAMBLA activists, ACORN, dead voters, and blacks. That doesn’t sound like a winning coalition, not even if ACORN and the dead work overtime. Local Dems better hope that Obama, Soros, Pelosi, and Reid have someone good working on this election year’s “crisis”. That’s their only hope.

Obama is going to raise the cost of the gas it takes to drive their fat butts to wal mart. They voted for “free” stuff from the “rich.” Come to find out, when socialists are in power, everyone with a dime to steal is “rich.”

They don’t like the illegals taking their jobs, they don’t like higher taxes. And educating granny and gramps about the HALF TRILLION Medicare cut & gut trickles down to the younger generation.

Huh. I bet there’s a lot of women on this site that repair cars and about anything else themselves. The dollar stretches only so far.

"Come to find out, when socialists are in power, everyone with a dime to steal is "rich.""

Well said from the constitutionalist's perspective. But, socialists believe they're not stealing anything - they're simply equitably distributing the wealth of the state.

Furthermore, we should not grumble, least we fall out of favor with the benevolent executors of our state's wealth and services for our "common good".

Our Founding Fathers said that the only way to hold onto this free country was for the public to be moral and well educated. They may have forgotten what a good teacher experience is.

Now that everyone is having their experience with the uber-left in control, the knowledge that things will only get worse with each year they are in office can hardly escape the attention of anyone seeing their dollar dwindle.

Which is why the first few months of the year were growing a bit. That money is all gone and we will crater again. Just get out your checkbook, so Obama can redistribute more of your wealth and everything will be fine (at least until your checkbook is empty). The dims can count on their Wal-Mart moms and Oprah to keep the Emperor in power.

I once saw a billboard, advertising a Baptist church that read, "We're not too hot or too cold, we're just right." I almost wrecked the car, I was laughing so hard. Guess they never read that passage...

In my experience, a ‘moderate’ is simply someone who is a liberal but (rightly) ashamed of it.

Yep. I don't fix the car, though - hubby does that. All the other stuff has been familiar for a long time - including delayed or shortened vacations or vacation rentals shared with another family.
