We learned again in the presidents speech on the BP disaster this week that all of our interests in the energy sphere are aligned: Move from carbon-based fuel to renewables and well create American jobs, heal the climate, put more distance between us and geopolitically unstable regions and punish those nasty oil companies while saving our shrimp and seagulls. Win-win-win-win-win.
Except the presidents beloved (if doomed) cap-and-trade legislation would: do little or nothing to alter global climate trends, reward oil companies like BP that backed the bill from the start, destroy jobs by increasing the cost gap with coal-powered China and India, introduce new environmental hazards like huge windmills chopping up birds by the thousands and, as it raises the price of domestic drilling, give the Middle East a lovely gift.
Demanding a government-led switch to renewable fuels, The one approach I will not accept is inaction, the president said, or huffed. The one answer I will not settle for is the idea that this challenge is somehow too big and too difficult to meet. The same thing was said about our ability to harness the science and technology to land a man safely on the surface of the moon.

We only landed a handful of men on the Moon. If the problem is to move everybody to the moon, it gets much more difficult.
The formulation, that we landed 14 men on the Moon, do we ca afford to do something else for everybody is a fundamental misunderstanding of the scale involved.
Obama does not consult with experts and relies on sloganeering rather than science or trusts junk science like global warming. In many ways he is like Mao and Stalin who committed their countries to massive great leap forward projects without any regard for the cost or consequences. They committed massive amounts of resources into projects that could never really work. Remember Mao vowing to make China self sufficient in iron production by having every collective construct crude iron smelters. This wasted vast amounts of coal and charcoal to produce iron of such poor quality it was almost worthless.
He's sooooo dumb, people have trouble accepting it...they think,
"no...he can't be that dumb. The fact that his ideas are incomprehensible must be because he is just so brilliant that no one can understand him...yeah, that's the ticket."
He isn't just Chauncey Gardiner, he's a Chauncey Gardiner who has supreme confidence in himself.
He (and we) will find out what an idiot he is...it's just a matter of time now!
This wasted vast amounts of coal and charcoal to produce iron of such poor quality it was almost worthless.
The collective has a way of promoting mediocrity. When no one has ‘ownership’, no one cares.
IIRC, it would take 180,000 windmills to generate 20% of the energy America currently uses. It would take an area the size of West Virginia to accommodate that many windmills. Worth it? I think not.
Weel, we’ve all heard the old saw that there is nothing worse than a fool who thinks he’s brilliant. President Sad Sack is living proof of it.
Or Stalin convincing himself that genes can change based on environment and re-inforcing his silliness by making Lysenko his crackpot pet scientist.
Obama doesn’t tilt at windmills, he just yells “FORE”
and takes a mulligan.
I think you need to add in the Obama national seashore
sign from the other thread, that will really do it.

Your tax dollars at play.
AND ON TOP OF THAT...
When the wind is only blowing at 10% or 20% of the velocity needed to make rated capacity - OR on those many calm, still winter days when there is NO wind BUT lots of demand for electricity for heat...
YOU STILL NEED THE SAME NUMBER OF GAS OR COAL FUELED POWERPLANTS THAT YOU EVER NEEDED, all the time.
And they are NOT amenable to starting and stopping depending on the wind. They have to run at least at a low idle rate all the time.
THUS wind power as a viable part of the grid, is a canard.
