Less than a month has passed since former Honolulu City Councilman Charles Djou (R-HI) won the special election for the 1st Congressional District seat vacated by Neil Abercrombie. But in that brief window, Djou has already boldly injected himself into the debate over the repeal of the military's "Don't Ask Don't Tell" policy.

He said immediately in direct answer to the question that in his experience NO service-people would NOT defend their comrades based on their sexual orientation. In other words, he respects the military and they would not resort to something as petty as that.
This has been twisted to imply that Djou said that those who didn't support the repeal didn't belong in the service, as though these same people would never defend gays in a time of war. Ridiculous stretch.
Djou has a pretty limited basis to expound on military service. I’d suggest he sit down with Sam Johnson or Duncan Hunter to geat a little bit broader perspective.
The closeted gay isn’t a problem, unless he’s had sex a month ago with an HIV infected ‘partner’ and now is in a position where he may be donating blood.
Well, let’s wait until AFTER the election, when hopefully we can stop it in one or both houses.
It will be worse and they will focus in certain branches of hte service. My guess is that the Coast Guard will not be the same within a decade if this becomes law.
I suspect the support given to Boy Scout Troops will be called into question immediately.
Going to get out before it becomes mandatory, huh? I would be doing exactly what you have planned.
If this is such a great idea then I think we need units that are totally comprised of queers.
You’re the one doing the twisting. He used the phrase “comply with” (DADT) and you’re spinning that into “support” (DADT). Djou is a scumbag who wants to use the military as a petri dish for pushing the homo agenda, regardless of what most military leaders think is best for the troops. Deal with it.
And remember this scumbag Djou’s name when the military gets overwhelmed with “hate crime” prosecutions.
Djou won his seat in a ‘special election’ caused by the quitting of Rep. Neil ‘Code Pink’ Abercrombie .
Djou will have to stand for regular election again in November .
The only other choice is a total lock-step Obama sickophant

There must be other ways ?
Apparently so.
Also the threat of HIV in combat environment should be more than enough to stop this but of course it won't.
Or leaking blood.
Exhibit D: Wesley Clark
The headline and article is misleading -it is not a quote nor does the answer paraphrased deal with support of DADT -he is talking about following orders...
That's a shame.
Read much?
The headline is accurate, and according to the article:
Mere days after being sworn in, Djou joined four of his GOP colleagues in voting to jump-start the repeal process.
Djou wants to repeal DADT and use the military as a petri dish for pushing the homo agenda, regardless of what most military leaders think is best for the troops. The guy is a scumbag.
(Sheesh.. The number of reading comprehension problems exhibited on this Free Republic thread is embarrassing.)
Djou says, Military do as they are ordered to do, why are we discussing gays in the military? They were ordered to don't ask, don't tell. Djou feels gays caught and discharged should not have been in uniform? He is talking out of both sides of his mouth on this one.
In essence what Djou is saying is correct. You don't join the military unless you can follow orders or it is a short term I think. Where I see a problem is that one person who can't accept it will bully. Or will not shower with him, go into a bunker, etc. The bully would probably be discharged.
What I think will happen is they will be asked sexual orientation during recruitment and they won't get enlistment. Or a majority may get enlisted for desk jobs in nowhere land.
Gays along with heterosexuals can now be brought up on charges of sexual harrassment for any wrong moves. Gays should be the same as anyone else in other words. Many gays are known for promiscuity so it could be a big problem.
In case you hadn’t noticed Lancey, the military is currently being used as a petri dish for social engineering
experiments of a far more dangerous kind: That’s the kind of concoction that spawned Major Hasan and a number of others like another Hassan that rolled a grenade under a tent in Iraq, killing and injuring his ‘fellow’ soldiers.
It’s the kind of experiment that had General Casey lamenting the possibility that too much negative publicity
for undercover terrorist Hasan would harm the military’s
not-so-secret mission of integrating as many Muslims as possible.
If you think “homos” will be openly kissing in barracks
now if DADT is repealed, you may be revealing your own fantasies. I have frankly never heard more fudge-brained thought from conservatives than I have on this one lonely
‘issue’, which isn’t an issue at all, but a vehicle to continue to polarize Americans, and all for the benefit of the far right and the far left “bases”. And having said that I can assure you I have seen this issue up close over 40 years ago, when it wasn’t an issue at all, during basic training in Ft. Polk Louisiana, at the height of the Vietnam
War. I wonder how many FReepers, out of all 325,000 actually know whereof they speak on the subject of Gays in the Military, or DADT, or even have ANY firsthand experience
of it. I would welcome hearing it.
